When would you need to change a Timing Belt on a VW Passat Estate 2011 2.0 Diesel ? We will be looking at one at the weekend. There is 150k km on the Clock - should it have been done by now ? If not should we ask the Dealer to include it ?

It should be done now as the car is 5 years old.

Rang the local VW Main Dealer (not the seller) yesterday and they are saying on that type of car that the Timing Belt should be changed at 210,000km. Is that not a bit long ?

VW UK recommendation on that Engine is 130K miles (210K KM) or 5 years, whatever comes first.

As far as I understand these Belts are life long belts according to the Manufacturer (Continental), and shouldn't need replacing at all. In some countries VW doesn't even make a recommendations for the Belt Change anymore, but somehow they persist with it in the UK and Ireland. Probably a good money maker for them.
