Job search for teenager

I have been searching everywhere on the internet for a job. Every time, it keeps showing the stupid regulations and laws for teens and a child. And every time, I find a job I would love to do and it came up in the search "TEEN PART-TIME JOB", when I go into the link of the job, I found out you have to be qualified and over 18. I am 15 right now but I am going to be 16 in November. I will also begin TY in August which is when I have to get a job for work experience. I know it's early but I want as much done as possible before then. Even a job for the summer would be grand.

Everybody say, I was never a kid! I was never the kind who wanted to have fun, go out with friends etc. I always wanted to work! In fact, I love working with education in particular.

Unlike ALL, yes ALL the teachers I have had, I actually care about students and the job. I don't just focus on the dumb curriculum. I actually ask to see what the student finds difficult and see if he / she would be interested in learning stuff that's not on the curriculum - this would make the subjects impact more of the student's life. I already have experience from:

    - Correcting spelling tests for my primary school teacher (as I was the top speller)

    - Teaching weather for a primary school teacher (I even rewarded students green cards after. I simply asked them questions to see if they were listening and anybody who got them right got a green card)

    - Correcting exam papers for my science teacher (as I was the top student and it's HL Science btw)

    - I have given a few little grinds to students and now they find the subjects (Geography, Irish and French) much easier thanks to me helping them

I don't care about money. All I actually care about is helping students, encouraging them to learn!

Since I can't find a job or I am not allowed work by the law, I can't do absolutely anything. Life is so unfair .

    My interests include:

    - Writing songs
    - Predicting weather
    - Teaching
    - Geography (not Physical Geography though such as Rocks or Mass movement)
    - Making quizzes
    - Recording, mastering and editing songs (I have my own little record label going with 2 artists signed so far)

    Please someone help me...

    Top speller musicians unite! :)

Are you allowed to freelance/work for yourself in Ireland? When I was 17 in the US, I tutored, taught piano lessons, and typed from dictation tapes (this was back in the early 1980s). With your skills, you could design an educational website with interactive quizzes to help people practice things like math facts, spelling words, music theory, and English as a Second Language, and then sell subscriptions. My brother is an instructional designer in Texas, designing educational programs for such companies as Disney and Accenture. His 19-year-old son now designs interactive sites as well.

I was an instructional designer for a multinational energy company, which is how I met my husband and moved to Ireland. You sound like a natural trainer and I really like your attitude toward students and the educational process. You seem to know how to find where people lack skills and confidence, and address those needs. Just think of a way to put those skills together in a package that people could purchase.

Thanks. Even in Irish class for example, my teacher keeps telling me to use the same phrases over and over again in my stories. I don't! It's because I want to learn the language properly and be creative about it. All of my classmates come to me if they want help with exam paper layouts, exam guidelines, exam timing, sample answers etc. In class, I do be just sitting there waiting for the day to pass :pac: because I know all the crap, I am not learning anything. I have done 3 years of computer education and I have not learnt even one new thing, I taught myself all the stuff from ages like 6-10 :pac::pac:. Oh yeah, I am also interested in helping with computers - one of the easiest things I find to do.

Bro, I even create revision notes for my classmates that breaks down what they have to learn or have learnt into much shorter points but unbelievable of how short they are, they consist of everything they need to learn. My attachment is an example of such notes.

My website for my record label is sryanrecords.weebly.com.

I even have 2 albums and 1 official single on iTunes and have earned an easy amount of 340 euro in 7 months because of the selling of my music. Funnier things about me include that my phone's ringtone is my EDM song, Infinity and I set it on the phone myself! NO ASSISTANCE. In fact, I never get assistance even when mastering, recording and editing songs for my artists and myself. I do everything alone!!! I really hope that this shows that I enjoy working. When I'm not doing these things, then I'm being creative writing poems, short stories etc.

I have wrote around 5-6 poems so far.

My website for me, Sryan Bruen (songwriter-composer-musician) is sryanbruen.weebly.com.

^ Just thought I'd show you those websites.

I am also spending my time helping students on studyclix. You can see many different threads by me in the discuss forum on it including:

HL Tips (by Sryan Bruen) (JC Irish)
    Irish Phrases (JC Irish)
Vocabulary, Notes and Grammar (JC French)

I don't see why at all, I am not allowed to work. CRAPPY LAWS! Like my results in my previous summer tests, all Higher Level btw:

    Science - 85%
    Music - 96%
    Irish - 92%
    English - 81%
    Maths - 76%
    History - 90%
    Geography - 95%
    Business - 90%
    French - 95%
    Religion - 98%
    Computers - 100%

I don't think you're allowed to do that at a young age like 15 yet these days btw of being a music teacher, working for yourself. I am on the following grades of instruments

Vocals - finished (I have a very horrible voice though so I gave up on it after I completed singing)
Piano - primary (before grade 1 but I have done elementary and preliminary - so I can play basic songs)
    Guitar - grade 4
Recorder - well, no grade but 2 years of experience of playing it and learning
Clarinet - 1 year experience of learning and playing
Music theory - grade 4 (so I am literally not learning any music theory in music class in secondary school)
Tin whistle - 1 year experience of learning and playing

Songwriting - I am now at 4 years since I began it
Composing - I am now at 2 years since I began it

I only recently began my record label though back in November when I got all my necessary equipment. Where do you think would hire someone like me? :P:confused::pac::cool:

Wow. I honestly don't know the laws for a 15-year-old working for an employer in Ireland, but I'll ask around and see what I can find out. I think it's really unfair for someone with your talent and motivation to not be able to set up your own freelance work, if that's how it works. I mean, I've been looking for someone to teach me Irish ever since I came... yes, everyone asks me, "why do you want to learn Irish", and I look around and smile and say, "I think this is Ireland, right?"... and I'm a real dunce about trying to learn it online because I don't know how to pronounce things. Too bad you live all the way across the island, lol. I'll check out your music site as well, definitely.

Build a skills-based CV focusing on the things you could do for a potential employer. It doesn't matter at this point whether you can get hired, it's important to have those things written down so someone can say, "hey, I remember that motivated dude, maybe we can throw him a gig". Don't despair because you're young. Build experience if nothing else. These days you never know who knows who, in the music business or in the training business. Just get yourself out to as many interested people as possible, in person and on social media. Be kind and trustworthy and don't let yourself be talked into anything questionable. And best of all possible luck to you. :)

Ah bro you should study Irish cause you want to - there's no better reason. I study it myself in more depth OR actually learning it :pac: (because the way it is taught is absolutely awful, Beatha teanga í a labhairt!!).

I even wrote an Irish poem called 'Cá nDeachaigh Tú?'

Tá a fhios agam go bhfuil grá agat dom
Féach ar sé i do shúile
Grá ar an dóigh leat póg dom
    Ná habair aon bréaga
    Abair beimid le chéile
    Tríd na laethanta stoirmiúil
    Le chéile go deo
Feicfidh mé stanadh ar isteach do aghaidh
Gach ceann de na bronntanais a faighim
A bhfuil aon rud i gcomparáid duit
Ach a thaispeáint ní dhéanfaidh mé dearmad
Na hamanna a fuair mé a chaitheamh leat

And an Irish song called 'A Ghrá'

    A ghrá,
    Tá grá agam duit
Bíonn tú an grá mo shaol
    An chuisle mo chroí
    Tá tú go hálainn
Táim i ngrá leat a ghrá
    An bpósfaidh tú mé?

    Tá tú m'anamchara
    Más é do thoil é
    A fhanacht go deo liom
    Tá póg agam duit
    Maireann lá go ruaig ach
    Maireann an grá go huaigh

    A ghrá,
    Capall an tsaoil an grá
Níl leigheas ar an ngrá ach pósadh
Mar sin, an bpósfaidh tú mé?
An té nach bpósann níl ach uaigneas dilte dósan
Mar sin, an bpósfaidh tú mé?
    Mas é do thoil é!

Ní féasta go rósta, ní céasadh go pósta
    Tabhair póg dom, a ghrá
    M'fhíorghrá
    Tá tú iontach álainn
    Mo stór, mo thaisce
    An bpósfaidh tú mé?

Is leighis is fearr do ghrá pósadh
    Tá tú an-dhathúil dom
    Glaoigh ar na gardaí!
    Maireann grá go deo
    Agus tá tú mo ghrá

    A ghrá,
    Tá grá agam duit
Bíonn tú an grá mo shaol
    An chuisle mo chroí
    Tá tú go hálainn
Táim i ngrá leat a ghrá
    An bpósfaidh tú mé?

If you can translate them, I think you're doing pretty well at Irish and I wouldn't worry about it

Under sixteens are restricted in how much they can work, so employers logically enough will be slow to employ them.

Even under 18s cannot work certain hours.

Yes I am very aware of how many hours I can work - in fact that's all that has been coming up in my searches for jobs. NO ACTUAL JOBS just these regulations. So I haven't a clue where to even interview for. This job is either for summer part-time or TY next year that I want.

Well you need to check job hunting sites like jobs.ie irishjobs.ie etc if you are looking for actual jobs.

However in reality if you are looking for a summer job in a shop, then do up your c.v., print out copies and hand it in locally.

Additionally, you will need to send your c.v. to companies if you want work experience in transition year.

No point looking now for a job for next year?

I think it's great that you're so enthusiastic about working, and you're obviously well able for school. Just don't forget that you only get one shot (mostly) at school and exams so make sure you stay focused on that as your primary goal. Getting a great Leaving Cert and good results in college will help you a lot later on in your career.

As other posters have said, there are laws that greatly restrict the work that can be done by under 16s and under 18s. If you're not 16 until November I think you'll struggle to find a 'traditional' job for the summer. BUT that doesn't mean there's no work out there. When you're the age you are, it's mostly about who you know and what connections you have. Ask around in all your local shops if there's anything you could do to help out here or there. They'll be unlikely to hire a 15 year old to go behind the counter but they could give you a flyer drop run (I know of 13-15 year olds who have done this) or a few odd jobs. Ask your neighbours if they have any jobs - particularly elderly neighbours. You could babysit, mow lawns, clean, run errands etc. You seem to like tutoring - I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to hire a 15 year old as a tutor but if your neighbours have kids offer to help them out with their homework or school projects. It can all go down on your CV as experience that will stand to you in the future. These things might not be exactly what you have in mind with regards working but I think you might just have to accept that you don't have much choice at the moment. Next year you'll have a better chance of getting something part-time in a shop etc.

Also, keep going with your music and with making notes and all that sort of thing. Even if you don't make much money from it, it's all experience and practice. Try teaching yourself some more skills over the summer - do you know any programming languages? That would be a fantastic skill and one that there are tons of resources online to help with. Another language would be a great idea too if you have an interest in that.

Keep up the enthusiasm but douse it with a little bit of patience and jobs will come your way all in good time. Best of luck!

Have you looked at what charity and volunteer organisations are in your area and contacted them? To be honest it sounds like you don't just want a job, you want a job that is worthy of you and being realistic you are 15 with no qualifications so you aren't going to get a teaching job etc.

Maybe you could approach someone doing summer camps and offer introductory music classes or a fun Irish class, you age might not be a as much of a problem in that situation. You need to come across as professional when approaching someone, not simply I am great at everything.

I don't mind doing some jobs that aren't worthy of me - it really depends though!

In my 1st year of secondary, I even made some powerpoints for my Geography teacher that she still uses now to this day for her teaching. - Forgot to mention this. Yes, I can't seem to find anything. My area is Donaghmede (Dublin 13) btw.

Because of all the regs you're unlikely to find a job that's officially advertised online. Do up a basic cv and call to every small locally owned business in your area. You may well get something on a casual basis - making sandwiches, washing dishes etc.

Also people looking to hire people like that tend to hire people they have a vague connection to - friends kids or recommendations of their existing employees so ask every adult you know if they know of anything and ask every friend you know who has a job if they know of anything.

When I was 15, I could only attend summer camp as an "assistant counselor" sort of person. I didn't do it (too busy attending choir camp that year) but apparently they got a small stipend. Long time ago though!

The sort of camps that provide activities for 2 to 3 hours a day for primary school children during the summer holidays.

Yeah this would be your best bet, even if you were 16 or over this would still be your best option probably, as you saw every job demands a truckload of experience even if its quite basic and easy to train someone to do.

I remember seeing an old job I did re-advertised and you'd honestly think it was some hot-shot IT position with loads of responsibility when all I did was do a few simple steps of a computer programme that anyone could be taught in an afternoon.

Like another reason that I love to work could be because there are very little camps for my age. I love music camps and there is only one for my age around Dublin - Songschool. I am going there for the annual camp again in July after my Junior Cert in June. I find it annoying and stupid how because of these things, I am left doing nothing other than writing songs and helping students but not actually in person! Does anybody know why laws like these were passed in Ireland? I can see why some jobs should require adulthood but some shouldn't!

Its to prevent exploitation and ensure those under 18 don't replace their education with full time work, same reason 16 and 17 year olds while they can work more also have restrictions on work hours, I know of a company where a manger was unaware their 17 year old staff member was still under 18 and was dishing out overtime and full time hours until the HR dept got wind of it and came down on him like a ton of bricks.
