we had an old electric one years ago...it eventually packed up and i bought a gas one that attaches to the gas bottle

waiting for that one pack in so i can uphrade to the hand held one:D

either way - gas is the way to go imo

I reckon a lot of the gimmicks like that horn-up thing for sale by Connachtagri are a waste / shoddily made - a friend of mine had one, pure rubbish.

This is the only dehorner to have. We've had electric, gas bottle and now this type for a good few years. This one is head and shoulders above the rest. I got it in the vets shop, but I think lots of agri stores stock them too

Heard a good comment re those lads by our advisor! Not able to say it online unfortunately but he'd be fairly in the know about them :D

I find with my electrical one that you'd want to give it 15 mins at least to heat up. Also need to keep the hot end from not touching anything as its heating.

Have a gas handheld one here, can't think of the brand but it comes in a bright green box. Excellent to heat up and gets the job done every time.

have to buy a new dehorner. was initially thinking of the gas one but they are 180e whereas this is at 300e so don't mind paying the extra bit but don't anything about it.

    any feedback???

waste of time and money. lon term it costs you money with having to dehorn the same animal again:mad:
Contacted Connaght agri regarding this unit, explaining that it appears faulty .... nothing short of an arrogant selfish crowd I ever dealt with. Zero customer care.

I have the gas one that attaches to the gas bottle but the nozzle seems blocked as it only heats up lukewarm ,i wonder where one can get a replacement nozzle ,i tried poking it with a needle but no luck

Exact same prob here. Does anyone know if mullinahone repairs them? Have something in the back of my mind that says they do.

Is the gas buddex the dehorner of choice ?
I have to get one and more importantly use it on time this year !

That lads that's were not happy with the horn up . What age were you using it at ? Your meant to do a few days old.

I no idea how good they are but if your using in on few weeks old then it won't work

I know a farmer who had something similar that he got in from Germany and his very happy with it .

I missed a good few and had to skull them as weanlings.
I usually use the one i heat up with the cutting gas but i want one thrown in the jeep that I'll be more inclined to use without hauling the gas bottles around

I love my Portasol one, must be 4yrs old now and still as good as the day I bought it and does calves on four farms each year.
Only issue is that you have to refill it every 3 calves or thereabouts but that's only a 10 second job.

Have the mullinahone one connected to the cylinder.
Here's the sheet that comes with them and the parts list.

This is the same one I use. It's a decent job, I thought it was very good till a neighbour had an Express dehorner on trial. I pollied three calves here with it to see what I thought of it.
It was super. Glowing red in a few seconds, I was very impressed.
It was handgun shaped. Some weapon of a thing.
I couldn't tell you if they give trouble or anything, only to use it, it was by far the best dehorner I've ever used.

The old boy went to the local hardware today and got the Express one ( he thinks !) They had to order it in but should have it in a few days so hopefully it will be good

spot on the - the buds have to be v small- they say before 7 days but that's not a hard rule- won't work on larger buds
