RTE 6N broadcast stereo not 5.1

Hi does anyone know why RTE broadcasts the rugby in stereo only ? Is this the same for all sport they broadcast? I noticed the BBC had the same games in 5.1 at the weekend.

I don't really know why not RTE are putting out 5.1 sound for sport or films. The DTT standard for Saorview allows for broadcasting of Dolby Digital 5.1 for sound but as far as I know RTE has never taken advantage of it. Perhaps you might get a Dolby Prologic enhancement if the sound is played through suitable equipment.
