got a renault megane 04 recently yes i know there heaps of sxxt but needs must ,,,anyway it the card start had a prob with it got the thingy in the car changed still not working properly ,,been told now that its needs a new card and have been advised it cost nearly 500 to replace cant afford that and the car not worth that much seeminly its a very common prob in these cars ,,but i can now start the car with card and knife so it will do for now ,but its coming up for nct it should pass fingers crossed but will they fail it because of the way i have to start it ?...and everytime i drive it terrifed of been stoped by garda with a knife in car :rolleyes:

Did you contact a few Renault main dealers for prices. I know the cards have to be ordered from Renault France and come precoded but I was sure the dealer said to me they were 150 each 500 seems way to strong provided the card unit is working and it just needs the keycard. There are guys who repair key cards too I don't know much about that though.

Put it through as is and see if it fails on something else.
If it fails on the card only then it will be a free visual re-test since they don't have to bring it inside.
