Hi my son went to sign on today and was told after working the last 2 years he doesn't have enough credits for jobseekers. They said he only has 20. Does that sound right?

What were his dates for working?

One credit per week as far as I know - 52/3 for a year. He can get a printout of his record if he requests it from Social Welfare. Maybe he has only 20 for the reckonable year (runs from Jan. to December.)

He worked from September 2013 until 2 weeks ago

He needs 104 in total and 39 in 2014
If he checks his P60 for 2014 he should be able to see how many insurance weeks he had

2015 contributions may not be available on the system just yet - as far as I know, these are populated from employer P35 returns. The due date for these is not until 15th February.
He should have P60s for 2013 and 2014 - these will show the number of insurable weeks (or contributions paid). He can supply this evidence to social protection to get his record corrected if needed.

Sorry if this seem stupid he hasn't got his P60 yet and he doesn't know what he done with last years. Does it matter if the prsi is his or the employers?

Probably need to approach this in a couple of ways.

Use below link to ask for PRSI record.
I did this before but it took about 10 working days before I got the printout

What he should do tomorrow morning is contact the Revenue Commissioners and find out where the gap is.
I suspect the 2013 details are there but 2014 may be missing. It would be too early for 2015 details to be in as P35 is due for filing around now. The 2014 P35 may not be in, this is not unusual and I have come across it before.

Now who to ring in Revenue Comm
If he uses next link, and puts in his PPS number it should give him the contact details of the relevant Revenue Commissioners district.
When he rings if 2014 missing try and find out if its only his details missing or the entire P35 for the company.

Your son also needs to get out his payslips if he ever got them.

If he earned more than €38 in any week his employer had to make a contribution for him
It doesn't matter if it was he or the employer made the contribution
He should go back down to the SW office and ask where the gaps are
Nobody in the SW is trying to screw him over, maybe there's been a mistake, he'll just have to ask, himself

I happened to have occasion to call the tax office just yesterday, and the lady confirmed that the reports for 2015 are not in yet. The businesses have until February 15 to turn in their reports, and the lady said it would be up to a couple more months before PAYEAnytime was updated. I only received my P60 for 2015 today.

The PRSI contributions for 2014 are the relevant ones for a claim in 2016

Ok, good to know. Someone upthread posted something about the 2015 information, so I thought I'd mention it.
