Melbourne has an amazing social scene, the bars and restaurants are world class, there are quirky little places down laneways and big super pubs so something for everyone. I would say that from my 3 years going out in Melbourne that it is a lot better than Dublin. More choice, it is a bigger city and more diverse.

While there are world class restaurants, I don't think the bars compare to Irish pubs in terms of pure atmosphere. There are quirky and cool bars but they often bring with them an element of pretension and not the laid back craic of an Irish pub. There is a lot more to social life than bars though and Melbourne has a great cafe culture and you'll find yourself meeting friends for brunch every weekend.

Dublin pubs definely have some soul and the fact there are about 10,000 pubs in a 3 mile radius certainly helps!!

But in terms of food and booze quality melbourne is in a league of its own. Added to the fact you can get a drink past 3am is amazing.

Much different vibe in both cities but you can't really beat sitting in a beer garden with the sun on your back sipping on a pint of stone and wood.... :D

You must of had 10,000 pints in a 3 hour timeline.
