VW Passat 1.4TSi

Has anyone owned a 1.4TSi Passat? Would love to hear some feedback. What do people think of this car?

I have come across a Comfortline Passat in Kildare - can't post the link as I am a newbie. If anyone else could add it to the thread that would be cool. It is a 2011, has 37k miles and two owners, any potential concerns with low mileage and two owners.

I do a 10 mile drive 12 times a week. I was originally looking for a petrol but found them very hard to get. Then most people I know were telling me to get a diesel, even my local mechanic said go for diesel, and to get a 2litre rather than 1.6 as a much nicer drive.

Anyway, still thinking petrol is the correct way to go with some of the stories I have heard on modern diesels. I have just came across this 1.4TSi - always had my heart set on a highline but beggars and choosers and all that.

I think OSI means if you buy it, you'll never sell it again. i.e - nobody wants a petrol Passat here and it will be very hard to sell on down the line

I wouldn't say that its a car you will never be able to sell on. It still has an appeal in that it's a decent sized family saloon that has low running costs for those who don't do alot of driving.

Even though it's only 1.4 litre it has a turbo and still has decent enough poke to move. The main thing to look out for that engine is the timing chain, these can stretch over time and need replacing.

The 1.4 Passat is actually fairly easy to sell. Nice to drive, nippy enough. As well as chain check the electronic handbrake, as these can cause problems.

    I'd buy one.

Is that not way overpriced at 15k for a 5 year old? Or are petrols that rare now they are keeping their value?

I thought so myself. I have in my head that I would pay €12/13k tops but think there is an element of truth in what you are saying about them been rare.

There is 2012 DSG Auto going for €19k!

Daughter has the comfortline (122 BHP Model) since new in 2008, present "mileage" 188.65 K Kms, Repairs/replacements: one new electronic handbrake switch, two rear shocks. As with all modern engines its important that the service intervals are done regularly, the consensus re the timing chain seems to be that it is not a particular problem on the single charger (122 BHP) engine.
I drive it very regularly and I also find it a nice drive.
If you are intent on buying it ensure that the servicing intervals were carried out, as this is a very low mileage car, a lubrication service should have been done at least yearly. Is there any kind of warranty on this car?.

Would agree, in 2 or 3 years time it will probably be (wrongly) considered scrappage material only and will be practically worthless,

2008 versions are going for €7/8k now so I'm sure in 2019 a 2011 won't be viewed as being practically worthless.
