Android tv boxes vs Linux sat receivers

Which is the better system regarding picture quality? I know the androids are streaming devices whereas the linux machines decode the sat signal. Are the android boxes reliable? Do the streaming sources just come and go? Whn I'm away from home I use mobdro and a chromecast - how much better than this are the android boxes?
