Opened the boot of my 09 a4 saloon this morning on the inner light noticed a small drip of water falling down.

Opened the cover and the carpet is fairly damp any idea how to trace where its getting in.

Worried about the electrical connector getting water in it and travelling back the harness causing more trouble.

Very unlikely to do anything to the wires but you'll still want to get it sorted. Get someone to hose the back of car with someone else in the boot checking for leaks. This is the fastest and easiest way to find where the water is entering.

I ordered a used rear lamp on eBay for 30 euro delivered just in case it's a seal and a pig of job trying to fix it

Thanks for the advice if I get herself to help me she will lock me in the boot and won't let me out

Don't order anything until you find out where it's coming from. I think(not certain) that the rear lamps on those are seperate from the body and as such it wouldn't be a seal issue. The chances are it's coming in from somewhere else and it's likely you will be getting something like tigerseal to seal it.

Sorry for not replying sooner only got a chance to look at it to today as i had a day off:o

Last week when i spotted it i got some tissue and dried out all the liquid i could see
closed the boot and gave it a good shot of water from every angle i could reopened it
and noticed the carpet liner on the bottom left of boot was wet no where else.

Looked around the rear light and noticed one of the retaining brackets was slightly crooked and not seated properly straightened it up closed the cover closed the boot.
To be honest forgot about it gave the car a good wash today and shot water everywhere
opened the boot no drip this time.

Hopefully it was just the outer cover of the light in the boot not closing properly that let the water in

if it was not the problem ill be back on:D
