Using MTB SPD shoes with flat Pedals?

Need to use my hybrid tomorrow for the commute - normally use SPD Pedals on my road bikes and its meant to be very cold tomorrow so have a dilemma -

Can I use my MTB shoes with regular flat type Pedals? Would like to wear overshoes due to the cold, or will my feet keep slipping ?

    Thanks

All, my SPD shoes came with a piece that you can swap in when the cleat is not there.
If you put that in place and your pedals are wide and grippy, I can see no issue.

Should work fine, the SPD cleat doesn't protrude much. Best thing would be to take a trial spin around the block this evening and see how you get on. FWIW, I've also put my overshoes over runners in the past which also works fine.

overshoes on top of runners sounds like a plan for me tomorrow, I can't feel my toes atm.
