I'm not sure if this is the best forum so mods feel free to move/remove. I recently moved doctors, my new doctor is asking for my medical records from the previous, when I called to have this done the receptionist said he had moved to another location but she could meet me to have this done and there would be an administration fee of 25e. Has anyone come across this situation, is it a standard fee?

It sounds very expensive for what amounts to taking your folder out of the cabinet and handing it over.

Cant you just fill the new doctor in on whatever is relevant? I did this when I changed doctor, I just verbalised any important history. I realise more complex medical histories may need the actual records.

That's what I'm thinking of doing, I thought it was a bit unnecessary for a minimal task, I wouldn't be seeing the doctor and surely it's not an unusual request that it amounts to extra work requiring a fee, although maybe it is!

Well I wouldnt mind an admin fee of a fiver say, but twenty five quid is taking the proverbial.

This link seems to suggest a fair fee for administration but its not applicable to private GPs.

Can the new doc not request them from the old doc without you having to act as messenger?

He gave me a form I need to sign giving consent so they can then email them forward, so it probably does require me to get them

It's a bit much considering you could get your hospital chart copied for much less. If your file has important correspondence or results then I would go for it, it would be more hassle to ring and get those re-sent to the new GP if needed.
