Solicitor practices

I bought a house with my girlfriend a few years ago, she now wants off of the house.

    My questions are
    1. Can the same solicitor represent both of us as he is telling us he can?
    2. I have asked the solicitor to write to my ex regarding the house and to provide me with copies of all correspondents. The solicitor has replied that he cannot give me copies of correspondents directed to my ex. Is this correct ?

If anyone can help answer these queries I would greatly appreciate it.

Depending on the nature of the transaction, then he may be able to represent you both.

However, considering this is an "buying out my ex" scenario, just go and find yourself your own solicitor. It will erase any paranoia from your mind about what the solicitor may or may not be saying to your ex.
