Illness benefit about to end

My o/h has been on illness benefit for 23 months while waiting for an op which he had last month. He is due back at the consultant next month and is pretty sure they won't let him return to his job.

He wants to work so will be looking for other work but how does it work in the meantime? Will he transfer automatically to jsa or does he have to apply and then wait for a decision and payment?

His doctor will have to certify that he is fit for work in order to claim JSA.Have a look here if he is not fit for work http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/disability_and_illness/

not a 100 % sure but can he not apply for partical cap benifit i know you have to be on illness for six mths before you apply ,,if you get it you can go back to work for one hour or 40 hours a week makes no difference to payment give them a ring directly because it fairly new payment and the social welfare not up to date on rules best of luck
