Negotiating corkage fee

So all our planning is going exceptionally well, no hiccups or issues bar the cost of corkage. I want to bring in my own wine and the venue are charging €12 per bottle. I contacted them and asked for a better price as I feel €12 is very ott and they've come back with €10! Ideally I'd like between €6-€8. Any ideas what's the best way of negotiating or do I just come outright and say that's all I'm willing to pay?

From the venues we viewed who offered corkage I think you're getting a pretty good deal and doubt they'd discount further.

I've heard of couples getting it free, so no, I wouldn't settle for 10.

I'm not paying corkage. Happy days :)

Id say just come out with it... say what you are willing to pay and see will they meet you in the middle..

Is there selection not good or too expensive or are ye really fussy with wines..

I have been quoted 20 euro a bottle which is nuts. I need to check what their cheaper house bottles are and compare.

20 Euro corkage is outrageous. What price is their house wine? Would they make 20 Euro on a bottle of house?

I don't know the answer to either of the Q's I need to look into it. I guess they make their cash on the wine.

Im not too bothered. We are having a small wedding and 80% or the people will be drinking pints etc.

I don't understand why people seem to go mad for corkage.. Like really unless they are offering it at around €5 or free even for dinner there isn't much savings there..Would be number one thing to do check how much their own wines are that's where you would start

Tbh we're not wine drinkers at all, we're trying to think of our guests who are and have been given some advice on some nice wines to get but looking at the difference in what we'd spend, we wouldn't really save a whole lot by buying our own (even if we did pay €10 corkage) as a bottle of house is €23 so I'm thinking now I'm happy enough to just go with that as it saves a lot of hassle with having to source a good wine, especially when I don't know what is a good/bad one, and have to get it to the venue. Thanks everyone for the input :)

Chew chew go with what ye are thinking.. Defo believe me no one will even batt an eyelid.. We would be big wine drinkers and love wine and spent a lot of time picking out the perfect wines for us for the wedding..But to be honest i dont think it really matters.

Even going from being at others peoples weddings you either drink it or you dont.. It is never plonk plonk..One thing that is nicer and it doesnt matter what the wine really taste like haha once you have it cold enought for white thats all that matters. So maybe request a wine bucket for the table for whites..

Dont be adding stuff for ye to do honestly people will either drink it or not... And no one will be offended....

Your way off the ball, there 100 bottles at 20 euro is 2000 Euro at a 5er its 500 a difference if 1500. In the right place you can get a great bottle of wine that the a restaurant sells for 70 Euro fir a 10, so why settle for house wine

If you going to go that way then, you can say right petrol to go pick up said wine this much..Also figure in transporting all this wine.. How you going to do it.. Oh wait more petrol and a car which will use more petrol becuase it is weighed down with all these wine bottles , so for the sake of a couple quid....Tis easier to go with what they offer unless tis free corkage

As someone who likes wine, and who put a lot of time and effort into picking nice wines for our wedding (although we did have free corkage and a supplier who could get us very nice wine quite reasonably so it was a good bit cheaper for us to do this) I would say try the house wine before deciding to go for it. I've been to weddings where the house wine was lovely and I've been to others where full open bottles were left on the tables after the meal because it was so bad. It was those weddings that made me so determined to make sure we had nice wine at ours.

There's plenty of places that do delivery for you as well as unused returns. We had high enough corkage but even with that it worked out cheaper to get our own wine, which also happened to be a lot better than their house wine. I'm not a white wine drinker but there were a lot of people happy with the pick of the white wine. Dunno about the red, as that was our choice and we quite liked it. We were generous enough with our wine estimates, and got another 220 back after returning the unopened wines.

Oh yeah there are plenty that do. But if the OP as such isn't into wines and it isn't something that would bother him then it is a lot of effort to go to, to please everyone else... Corkage makes sense for those I think who are into the wines but for people who aren't they can get fleeced
