Fine Tuning Freeview Or Soarview To Receive RTE 1

My girlfriend has a 32 inch Samsung TV. I'm unsure if it is full HD. Anyway here is the problem

She lives in Armagh City and can receive all of the Republic's TV stations, with the exception of RTE 1. She can not receive any of the Republic's TV stations been transmitted via transmitters here in the north (RTE 1,2 and TnaG). Presumably a fine retune is in order, but what to tune. I have carried out sever complete scans.

Would I be right in thinking that RTE uses the same channel/frequencies to broadcast all of its stations, and if so what is the channel/frequency? The same question applies to Freeview.

As mentioned in my opening she can receive all stations bar RTE 1 and that's all we are interested in doing. Any help or advice will be appreciated

    Kevin

The RTÉ channels are spread across 2 multiplexes/frequencies.

Use the coverage checker to find the recommended transmitter for your area and the frequencies for that transmitter - https://www.saorview.ie/en/get/coverage

Missing channels or muxes could indicate a signal/aerial issue.

Transmitters in Armagh City for Saorview would be either Clermont Carn (Louth) on Chs 52/56 or Cairn Hill (Monaghan) on Chs 55/59. If she is missing RTE1 she must also be missing RTE Junior/RTE1+1 and UTV Ireland. I know that CH56 is the one for a manual tune to get RTE1 from Clermont Carn and I assume its Ch 59 for Cairn Hill.

Cairn Hill is in Longford, from Armagh much the same direction as the Monaghan transmitter. It uses channels 47 & 44 for mux. 1 & 2 respectively, channels also used by the local Armagh Freeview transmitter.

    Black Mountain - 39
    Carnmoney Hill - 48
    Brougher Mountain - 30

Better to go with Saorview if you can as it carries all channels incl. RTÉ 1 & 2 in HD.

Thanks for this. Apologies as I was giving Monaghan DTT relay frequencies not Cairn Hill as you point out. I once lived just outside Armagh city (before days of Saorview) and there were a mixture of aerials in the city for RTE analogue - some were in direction of what I presume was either Cairn Hill or Monaghan (horizontal polarization) and others were in direction of Clermont Carn (vertical polarization). I presume the same still stands for Saorview reception.
