Swap feed and return on indirect copper cylinder

Last year I had a back boiler added to an oil fired system which was working fine and still is. The problem is when I have a good fire going I have reasonable heat in the rads but very little going to the hot water tank. On investigation I discovered that the expansion pipe is putting hot water into the tank in the attic rather than going through the coil and returning to the boiler. Both systems are heating the only coil in the tank but the feed is at the top and return at the bottom. This is ok for the oil fired system which is pumped but shouldn't the back boiler which is gravity flow, enter the coil at the bottom. The back boiler uses 4 pipes, feed and return to the rads, pumped and feed and return to hot water, gravity. The plumber who fitted the back boiler just teed into the existing setup at the copper cylinder and I'm wondering can I solve my problem by swapping pipes to have both systems feeding in the bottom and return out the top. Any advice greatly appreciated.

It's Kinda hard to follow what you're saying but from what I gather, you have a single coil cylinder being heated by 2 fuel sources and have hot water pumping into your header tank in the attic. All the above is completely wrong.
The best advise I coujd give you is to employ a plumber who understands how to pipe a dual fuel system correctly. Because the first guy obviously didn't understand.
