    Hi all,

Not looking to self build but looking at getting a new PC off the shelf or customised off a site like PC specialist etc. Been a while off the PC scene and have used iMac and MacBook Pro in the past, so appreciate any input as I am fairly lost with the graphics cards and such. All I know is that I want SSD for sure in some capacity. I just don't see the value in upgrading to a new iMac plus gaming not really great on them.

I have used garageband and would look to use something similar, something like Reason to hook up some Midi keyboards etc. I would also like to get back into some PC gaming, have PS4 but also like have both.

    1. What is your budget? €1000 to 1,300 or a little more if needed.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Music recording, gaming, work PC (Remote Citrix)

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No.

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

5a. If yes, what size do you need. N/A

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? 1080p, maybe 4k in the future

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? N/A

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

    8. How can you pay? Card

    9. When are you purchasing? Next week if possible

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Only looking to config online but no self build.

    Any help welcome, thanks!

I'm sure a local boardsie would build for you if you'd be okay with that.

At budget you should be looking at an i5, GTX 970/R9 390 and 16gb RAM. Unless you like Bloodborne sell the PS4, as it will soon be obsolete.

Look at the UK builders. I've yet to see an Irish builder that doesn't try and fleece you. Loads of guys on adverts doing it as a sideline for reasonable rates though.

    Thanks guys.

Yeah, think I'll keep the ps4 parallel to the PC, still enjoy some of the Indy games available on PSN.

PC Specialist are one UK company any others tried and tested/recommended? Will bang in some of the spwcs above and get an idea of price. Cheers.

Very few, if any, of us would have any recent experience of system builders. It's just too easy to do it yourself, with an excellent support network here if anything does go wrong.

On the service side, system builders have always been notoriously sh1te; closing that off as a reason to buy prebuilt.

Actually now I think of it, Dell might be worth a look for a system here, especially if the reason this needs to be a prebuilt is because work are assisting with the purchase.

Friend of mine had great experiences with Cyberpower UK, and even though his PSU failed after 2 years, (he had 17,000hrs clocked on it) they were very quick in sending a replacement, free of charge.
Shipping is cheap too, as they're in the UK.
