Job hunting

    I am unhappy in my present job & am seriously thinking of handing in my notice but I dont have another job got. What do boardies think? I didnt send out any CV s yet. Is it safer to wait until I have another job got or will I just go & hope for the best!! I am in the construction office based job! There seems to be lots of jobs advertised in my field but I am a bit worried & dont want to do anything stupid!!

    Well the most obvious question is can you afford to go??? Do you have say 6 months worth of living expenses saved up? What ever you get in unemployment benefits will probable not support your current live style, so unless you are in a position to dip into savings, you know the answer....

    Lots of ads does not equal lots of jobs, as some ads are for the same job, but posted by different agencies. Some agencies don't even know the client but are hoping to get attractive candidates and hope they can cold call the employer and so on. It would be good idea to try and find someone who has recently found a job in your area and get some feedback from them.

    You know if you leave a job you are not eligible for benefit for 9 weeks, from citizens advice...

    Its also been said its easier to find a job iuf you have come, start looking around anyway

    If you leave work voluntarily or as a result of misconduct, you cannot get a jobseeker’s payment for 9 weeks. However, if you have ‘good cause’ to leave voluntarily, for example, any changes in working conditions such as a reduction in pay, harassment or abuse from your employer, you may get your payment. The Deciding Officer in your social welfare local office or Intreo centre will decide whether you had good cause to leave voluntarily.

    It's easier to get a job when you have a job.
    Also see if you can get your current place to pay for any training courses going.
