I need to replace my mains fencer shortly. I'm wondering what people on here have. About 80acres with paddocks as well. I'm after a fencer that will burn threw the vegetation in the summer. I keep bulls and there constantly checking the fence. Ud see them blowing there breath at it checking for current.
Anyone buy the ones from Connaught agri.
    Thank you.

    Lol :D
I would go for something with high joules 15 would burn through anything
It an investment that could do you for 20 or 30 years so pay a bit more for a better fencer if you can afford it.
After that there is some extra technology if you want it like fencers that will sent you a text if there is a problem before animals break out.
Gallagher have one on YouTube. Any older Gallagher fencers I have have been good quality.
I find the bigger joules the better quality fencer as well rather than a cheap Chinese fencer that might not last too long.
Stick to a known brand pel elephant lacme Gallagher etc.

Have 2 lasc mor m2000 fences here which are identical to the cheetah G303 great fencers just make sure you have enough earth rods in it 6-8 which is something that I have not done properly but it will be corrected in the spring time, and also use double insulated 2.5mm covered wire to connect the earths and the fencer to the fence

I have a lacme 400 solar fencer great fence and highly recommend on many threads here.

Be sure when comparing fencers you are comparing like for like. you should look at the "joules out" of the fencer. Many quote the "joules in" which will be higher.
I'd also say you probably get what you pay for. Bought an elephant here last year after a good bit of looking around. Serious bang out of it if that counts for anything.

It's actually a lacme 500 it won't burn vegetation but a bit touching fence doesn't affect it
Has a pulse mode that only gives out shock when an animal touches it.
Brought it on a French website
    These lads do them too

Do a search on boards as solar fences have been discussed a lot here over the last few years.

Does anyone here have sheep and cattle
I'm thinking of getting one but would it be ok for sheep e.g.. how many strands would I need for sheep
I put up a lot of sheep wire with 2 strands of barbed. - but would electric fence be cheaper or better

    Thanks

Thanks, that fence seems excellent.Still hope to get unmetered supply from ESB . Maybe my quote is wrong,it would appear that it is out of line with all other quotes .Will ring ESB on Monday to clarify.

Have a look at these Pel fencers. I bought the 836r a couple of years ago. That would put manners on anything.

The output is serious from that fencer. Did u ever take a reading to see what volts it's giving down the fence line.

You can get more powerful fencers but how much power do you need
    http://www.gallagherireland.com/energizer.aspx?mktprodid=7517
That one will cover 1000 Acres and is putting out over 70 joules.

Dunno if Connacht Agri is the right place for fencers. That guy in Stradbally is a mine of info about fencers and the right way to earth them which is much more detailed job than most of us would do. He's inclined to push the 836 which might be overkill on the average place but if you've got sucklers and lotsa multi-wired fences, then you need a serious dog with good joules output to keep manners on the fookers.

It's not good to be caught straddling that one with ground slipping on both sides.

    Speaking from experience...:pac:
