Hi guys I got a quote of €300 for new rear discs and pads (supply and fitted) for my 07 Kia ceed 1.6 crdi.

Seems a bit pricey to me, is it?

    Thanks

    main dealer?
    Yep

wouldn't be too unreasonable i'd say. you could probably knock the guts of €100 off of that if you went independent and with a 07 car there's no reason not to (no warranty to protect etc).

Yea I'm just after getting a full service there pollen filter and filter cartridge was also changed on this service and I had to get two rear anti roll bar bushings and two front anti roll bar links also. The hole lot came to €500. Is that expensive? They said the rear disc and pad will need to be changed soon but there alright for another small while.

500e for a service and Arb links is absolutely extortionate but it's what you get at a dealers, go Indy for the brakes

here is my invoice. really is that overpriced??
How much would an indy charge?

It's not extortion, it's a fair price for a main dealer level service.

You could have came close to half that at an independent id say.

indy could do all that for half the price??
Think ill use an indy in future

Yeah, i'd say closer to €300 than €500 anyway.

Don't know if there's something special about the links on a cee'd but €40 a pop for those is fairly saucey, so is €45 for the cabin filter (if it isn't carbon etc).

€15 for waste disposal is a bit hasty too imo.

That said, for a main dealer bill it isn't like you've been fleeced, it's on par. Just with a car like that an independent would be more competitive.

Yep it's pricey but that is main dealers for you.
One thing I will say. You have at least got genuine bushes and drop links so you won't be doing them again in 6 months. Sometimes with indy, you get cheap stuff that is not worth putting in.
still you paid through the nose for labour and filters etc.

Not that it makes much of a difference but the oil waste disposal was €5 sorry

But anyway yea I suppose at least I have the Kia genuine parts anyway. So I won't be replacing bushes again in 6 months time.

Even tho it's safe to say I'll be using an Indy in future. If anyone know a good Indy in the kilkenny region please PM for future reference thanks

Difficult to tell without knowing the make and model of your car. Service costs vary hugely depending on the car make and model.

You got roasted on that mate..... 9 year old car going to a main dealer is crazy.... Find a good Indy, get the same work done for about a third less. Some stats for u:

approx 80% of cars don't go to a main dealer for service/repairs by the time they're 3years old.

By the time they're 5years old almost 90% of cars are serviced/repaired away from main dealers.

main dealers have started to reduce prices for older cars servicing etc (note ford ads offering fixed price serving for Fird cars 5 years and older) but still too expensive

You got roasted, why go to main dealer with 9 year old car...... find good independent who wil use quality oem parts that are half the price. A lot of times the oem parts are the same as main dealer parts that come in a KIA box instead of manufacturer box.

for main dealer it seems ok
its why I took up DIYing :)

I don't know if it is true but I hear that Kia parts are expensive anyway. Labour seems reasonable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Kia parts are extortionate money. For example that €41 cabin filter would cost you no more than €15 aftermarket with no compromise in quality.

In general it makes no sense to bring a car of that age to a dealer, that is particularly true when it comes to Kia due to the price of the parts.

I'll be using an Indy from now on that is for sure. Prob paid the guts of €150 extra my troubles for goin to the main dealer.
At least I have Kia quality parts on this occasion but I'll be finding myself a good Indy for the future.

As posted on this thread earlier I got the rear bushes changed on my car and front drop links.
Pereviously to getting them changed I could alway hear a springing sound coming from the rear of my car when goin over bumps. When I dropped my car into the main dealer they said the bushes are gone and need changing and they said you can proberly hear them when goin over bumps etc. To which they were right.
Anyway got them changed about 3/4 weeks ago and all was well and that springing sound was gone. But now I just noticed the sound has started to come back when goin over bumps etc. All be it not as often as it previously was but now and again.

Any ideas what the problem is? Should I be bring it back to them and highlighting this?

    Thanks
