As the title suggests, we've had out stove for a month now and I'm extremely underwhelmed by it.
We've a bog so when we had the open fire I'd lorry it with turf, put a sprinkling of coal on top and it would be sweltering! A bag of coal would last 3 weeks as it really was a sprinkling.

Since having the stove, we've bought a considerable amount of timber and there has only been about three nights that I've really sat here going, 'Ya, that's great'. Every other night I'm plying it with timber, adjusting the setting etc but it never really fulfills, to the point that I'm thinking of taking it out again, seriously!

Everyone who calls or asks us about it are always like 'It must be great' and I'm like, 'Ya, it's grand'.

Am I the only one ever??

Is it big enough output for the space your trying to heat ??
Is it a room heater or boiler stove ??

I fitted an insert stove last year it was the best thing i ever done in the house.

Ha, just what I wanted to hear!

It's a 7-9kw, room only insert. Ya it's a big room but from all the calculations in shop, online etc. It should be loads!

Can you not burn turf and coal in the insert ?
Is the timber good dry stuff ?

The timber is year old bone dry stuff. Ya, it's a multi fuel stove, we made sure of that given the fact that we have a bog. Have it loaded here with turf and timber and it's...okay. Compared to my sister's and the one in my home place, it seems lacklustre! Maybe it's just a poor one but it cost over 1k and I bought it off a guy I trust who is a reputable retailer, so there shouldn't be an issue. Maybe my expectations are too high....!

I put a freestanding Henley achill in this time last year. It was a lot of work, but best thing I ever did in the house.

Gas heating here as well so have the choice of which to use. But a properly fitted and sized stove should work very well.

When we moved back here there was an open fire. First thing we did was take it out and the old back boiler and put a stove in.

No regrets at all. He heats the whole house and hot water. Its a cool night and I'm in a T-shirt. Cool days we'll get through a bag (Old feed bag) of turf and a bag seasoned logs. Really cold a bucket of coal too.

My sister got one put in her open fireplace and I never thought it threw out great heat either . She uses coal and turf , its warm enough but it wouldn't roast the room aswell as a stove would .
Did you ask the installer to take a look to see are they happy with its output ?

I've no experience with insert stoves but I have heard stories of friends of friends taking them out after having the same experience as yourself. I put in a freestanding Stanley Oisin stove and it's the best thing I've done in the house. Do you maybe have too much draw on it and it's leading to all the heat going up the chimney? Is it burning very fast?

Can only vouch for the standalones, have 2 different models and they are the mutts nuts. Are you getting blackened glass, is the stove burning the fuel too quickly, what is the fuel usage?

That's what I'm thinking. Did a lot of research and the reviews are excellent of the stove; yes, it burns a little quick when I open it up but when it's turned down, it barely burns.

My dad put it in, he has installed dozens before and his own and one each for both my sisters, and they're great! Will have to have a chat tomorrow and see what he reckons.

It is hilarious that everyone comes in going 'Jesus, mine's awesome, beat thing I ever did', and I'm like, 'Ya, just what I wanted to hear!!'.

Bought a Clearview stove, love it, did you get you chimney looked at? We had to re-line ours, also we learned that multi- fuel stoves dont necessarily burn wood that well, that's why I ended up going with a wood burning- multi fuel stove.
