Irish Postbox offers free personal accounts with no monthly fees for PAYG customers. You will get your own personal Irish address (not a P.O. Box) in Trim, Co. Meath which could be used with An Post redirection. For each letter received you have the option to scan, forward, recycle, shred, and archive it. More information on PAYG pricing here. This might be handy for expats and people doing a lot of travelling.

I've been in touch with the company and they agreed to do a 20% off BA exclusive offer (€10 credit after spending €50). If you decide to sign-up please use Referral Code Boards10

And what benefit has this for you? Do you receive any commission?

Hmm is it legal to open post addressed to someone else? also to be honest i wouldn't sign up to anything where the "contact us" phone number is a mobile phone number.

Sure it's legal, you enter into a service contract with them to receive, open and scan your mail.

This kind of service is nothing new, it's available for years in the US, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.

In fact this company is using the back-end system of a UK company.

It has benefits if you travel a lot, all your mail is in their system inbox where you can see it and take action if needed.

A letter is received, it's envelope is scanned and you decide what to do (scan the letter, shred it, forward it). Make it's very practical for those things which still send snail mail to you when you are not at home.

However their Pay as you Go pricing is expensive (80 cent for the envelop and 1.20 for each page).

Lots of businesses use mobiles now instead of landlines

Mobile numbers make it handy to text details if required, if it's a sole trader he can answer the phone to you from anywhere in the country (potentially anywhere in the world). also can you get landlines in Meath?

You can have the same with a landline number from voip providers like goldfish.ie. Lots of people are put off by the cost of phoning a mobile number. I pay €2.50 for my landline number located geographically 100 miles away. Doesn't cost much to keep the ludites happy.

Actually I think the opposite is true. I think people are increasingly put off at having to pay the cost of stupid 1850 and 1550 numbers and to a lesser extent landlines numbers.

The reason being nowadays lots of people, if not most people have loads of free calls to mobiles on their mobile plan.

For instance with Tesco Mobile, for €15 I've unlimited texts, 1GB of data and unlimited calls to mobiles and local landlines, so I hate having to call 1850, 1550 numbers as it actually ends up costing me more!

I hate it when a business only has a 1850, 1550 numbers (looking at you Sky). The best business have multiple numbers for contact, a 1850 number, a local landline number and a mobile number.

BTW a tip if you have free local calls, many companies who have a 1850, 1550, number also have a number you can from internationally (e.g. +353 1 ...., 00353 21 ....) but is actually a local Irish number and works perfectly well in Ireland and can save you money.

I think you mean 0818, sky as fair as I remember is 0818. The call is charged at national rates and sky makes a % from the call. Best thing to do there is just message them on facebook or twitter and they sort out your issue much quick than it would be to ring them.
1550 is premium for the likes of competitions and wont have an international number.
Like you said for 1850 numbers, I would also look for their international number too, it just makes sense to ring that instead.
