Ovarian cyst laparoscopy

    Hi all,

After a long struggle with pain and discomfort I finally got the go ahead for a laparoscopy. I am wondering does anyone know how long the waiting list for the day clinic would be? I am going to Portiuncla. What would the cost be? I have no health insurance and so far consultations and scans have been free.

Out of curiosity, I have a functional cyst of size 6.1cm x 4.3cm.. I was repeatedly told that my pain (severe stabbing and throbbing in the right side with a constant dull ache) was not a symptom. Also, I am frequently running to the bathroom to pee, every 30 mins to an hr. But these symptoms were all dismissed as unrelated to the cyst. Did anyone else experience these symptoms with a cyst? It was quite disheartening to go through the whole ordeal and constantly be told they are unrelated.
    Hopefully surgery fixes it.

(Ps I have this since last June with symptoms worsening with time. All u got was repeat ultrasounds to monitor it and finally today was told I would undergo surgery)

    Thanks in advance.

I can't help you out with the cost etc because I'm pretty sure it was covered under my insurance. I got the laparoscapy at about 10 in the morning and I was home and all by 8:30 that night :) I had the exact same symptoms as you, in the end I couldn't sleep at night as I was going to and from the bathroom at least 15 times a night- not even over reacting. I also had the stabbing pain. Have you noticed if your symptoms get worse around the time you ovulate or get your period? For me there was a clear pattern I basically ended up in hospital with the pain the same week every month for almost 2 years lol. My consultant was also so dismissive, absolutely adamant that cysts were not causing me to be sick. However I was pretty clear that I wanted the laparoscopy to be done and I woke up from the anasthetic to be told I had 4 ovarian cysts all the size of golf balls :P I felt so much better almost instantly after I woke up the constant dull pain and nausea was completely gone. Still the consultant was adamant that the 4 cysts were not what was making me sick lol. Have you researched endometriosis as that is what I had/ have. Sincerely hope things work out for you, you're not alone x

Thank you so much for your reply! I am sorry for getting back to you so late but I never got an email to say you had :) my surgery was due to be in September! Another 7 months from when I was told I was getting it soon.. but I asked to be put on a cancellation list and as a result got an appointment for surgery in June. . But thank got for the last week or so my symptoms have abated somewhat! Except for constantly running to the toilet.. so hopefully I will be fully cured soon :) thanks very much again for your help :) x

May I ask how were your Cysts identified? How do you know you have Cysts?

I can jump in here. I was referred for a pelvic ultrasound for an unrelated issue and that showed that I had ovarian cysts. They may do a transvaginal ultrasound either.

I had my lap on a Thursday morning. Discharged that night. Think I was back to work on the Monday, but not doing anything strenuous. Back to rugby within 6 weeks I think it was. I have two small scars. Had it done privately in CUH in 2010. Was waiting about 4 weeks for the op.
