Job Seekers Query

Just making a query on behalf of my other half who lost her job shortly before Xmas....

Since then she hasn't secured a new job but he has put in some CVs etc. What she hasn't done is signed on, despite what I advised her she had a decent amount of savings and was maybe a bit 'proud' to do so. Upshot is she is eating into her savings and has finally thought that seeing getting a job hasn't come so easy she wants to claim job seekers.

How long on average considering it is more then 6 weeks that she lost her job would it be possible for her to get paid the allowance from the time of submitting her details....

thanks in advance for any help its a situation very new to both us us...

She should apply immediately. It could take 6-8 week for Welfare to come up with a decision. If she has savings of less than €20k, she won't be penalised. If she gets a favourable decision, payment will be backdated to date of application. Its Job Seekers Benefit she should apply for.

Thanks, she wouldn't have close to 20,000. Will get her to get started on the application...

Tell her to apply for backdating and explain that she has hoping to find something and not wanting to make a claim.

Job Seekers Benefit is not means tested - it depends on your PRSI record. Job Seekers allowance is means tested.

JSB details below can be found here :

    'citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_benefit.htm'

I cannot put in full link so just put a www. in front
