    Hi all.
Could anyone tell me what my CH pump should be set at.
I'm heating 9 double rads in a 3 bed bungalow.
It is set a 3 at the moment and was wondering if that is correct.

Also the hot water seems to be feeding into the boiler in our stove.
We don't use the stove so would I be able to shut off the feed at the
Circlelaiton pump used for the stove by screwing shut the brass fittings.
    Atb mike.

If the oil is heating the stove then either it's pipes incorrectly or a non return valve is passing. Better off getting a plumber to have a quick look

    hi DTP 1979.
    Yeah its me again.
The story with this plumbing is that myself and my wife spent a considerable amount of money on this already to a supposedly good plumber. Well it was a poor job done from the start the plumber went bankrupt and ceased working so no come back for us.
That's why I'm trying to do as much as I can myself. I'm fairly handy its just that I get stuck on a few things.
The thing with pumps is that there is two beside each other. One for the stove the other for the burner.
When I turn on the burner it pumps hot water back into the stove. So can I shut of the water supply to the stove pump via the screw taps.
Also when I turn on the burner it pushes a lot of water out the over flow pipe from the expansion tank.
I looked at that and it seems that the hot water is circulating back into the tank.
Also it get fairly hot. Sorry for the long post.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Here is a picture of the set up that is in the hot press. The red pump is for the burner and other for the stove. I shut the two valves on the green pump.
Will that stop the water circulating back up to the header tank.

Can you take several pics of the hotpress? So I can see the piping layout.

You shouldn't be shutting any valves on a system that has a solid fuel boiler connected...that's absolutely lethal and you could kill somebody.

From the red pump, going right, there's a tee. One goes up and one goes to the right. Where is the one to the right going?

That tee is going into another set of pipes and one that is going into the floor.

No sorry I mean the pipe rising from the red pump and going right over to a tee. From that tee, one pipe goes up, the other off to the right. Where's that going

That pipe is teed up into the copper tank and runs into the burner. Atb mike.

    Ok there's problem 1
Tee in the wrong place. Looking at it, the installer really has no idea about dual systems. In order for your oil to heat the water, it must travel through the stove to go back to heat the coil. Sorry mike it's not really a diy fix but it's not a big job for a plumber either. If you post your location maybe somebody here could reccomend a guy for you.

    Hi dtp 1979.
It heats the rads and water well. The only thing is that when I turn the burner it flows out the over flow pipe.

    That's because it's piped incorrectly

    Hi dtp 1979.
We just made a decision to take the stove out completely and just use the oil
That should save a lot a hassle in the long run.

If you remove the stove then your oil boiler will not heat your hot water, it'll only heat the rads

So far I have the water switched off going to the stove and the rads and water is heating. There is still water coming out of the over flow.
Also did I mention that it is a solid fuel stove.
What I'm hoping to do is remove the stove entirely and put back the plumbing the way it was from the first day.
Would I have to remove the pump that was put in for the stove and just plumb the burner pump into the feed thasts there already. And just blank off the hot water feed that was coming from the stove back to the tank.

You'd have to remove the stove and its pipework. Then rectify the piping issue in the hotpress and in turn this will stop the tank overfilling. The water will not heat on the oil side because it's piped via gravity for also be stupid reason. Your original plumber really hadn't a clue.

I know. It's not just us he left in the mess but I know of people that he plumbed whole houses for and they are still paying for it. So it could have been a lot worse.
So I will remove the stove and pump for the stove then connect up the burner pump again to the way it was originally.
What if I removed the green pump in the PIC that is connected to the hot water tank and then connect the burner pump red one in pic to that feed.
Will this not circulat the water for me.

Just move the return tee to the suction side of the oil pump

I will start by removing the stove and pump tomorrow and connect the burner pump to the tank.

Maybe if you draw out your system (how you plan on doing it) on some paper and show it so you can be advised how to change a few things if needed
