Consultant appointment fees

My wife has been told by her doctor that she has a localised skin cancer. She's being referred to a consultant, so she's now in the system. She's really worried, and I wish I could speed things up. We're both on medical cards, I was wondering how much it would cost just to have an initial private appointment with the consultant, to get the process started sooner rather than later? Perhaps I'm jumping the gun, maybe the referral letter will come fairly soon, I just can't bear watching her so upset.
PS This is the only category that I could find that suited this post, please re-direct me if you can suggest a better one, thanks.

    Different consultants charge different fees.

The best thing to do is to get a list of consultants that would be appropriate for her to see and phone their receptionists to ask how much an initial consultation is.

Usually the initial consultation is a little higher than the regular appointment fee in my experience.

If I were to make a ball park guess I would say a normal initial consultation fee can run anywhere from 150 to 250 euro. It depends on the specialty, how busy the consultant tends to be and the area (I used one consultant who charged more for his south dublin consultations than his wicklow ones!).

Your GP will be able to provide a few names to you to phone up and get comparisons, or you could google the specialty and hospital yourself.
