    Hi all,

As per title looking for suggestions for a restaurant on the east coast overlooking lake or sea within an hour from Northside Dublin for 20 people.

We were looking at wineport lodge Westmeath but we are on lough ree regularly so want something different.

Restaurant class similar to wineport please.

theres the waterside in donabate but thats not in same class as wineport.

The glasson is round the corner from the wineport

The seapoint in gorey is nice but its a big hotel.

Did you look at any of the restaraunts in dunlaoire or howth?

    4 seasons in carlingford lough?

Aqua in Howth may be worth checking out.
I've heard of a few weddings there.

King Sitric in Howth also might be suitable? Or Hartley's in Dun Laoghaire?

Both overlooking busy harbours, though, so maybe not what OP is after.....

I would not recommend Aqua or the King Sitric at all.

Purple Ocean in Dun Laoghaire worth a look? I've no idea if it's still good as I haven't been there in a while. Used to be beautiful though.

Oliveto at the Kingston Hotel in Dunlaoghaire have a private dining room overlooking the pier.

The food is very good, but more casual than Wine Port (sharing platters, seasonal slow-cooked dishes, etc).

Have you considered one of the yacht clubs in Dun Laoghaire or Howth?

Oh wow, what a pity. As in, what a waste of a building!

St Anne's Golf Club on Bull Island might be another one to take a look at.
Can't vouch for their catering or their arrangements for group size but the views would certainly do the job.

Howth Yacht Club will do a wedding for non members. Caterers very good there and good spot if you get a nice day. Plus you can get a few nice photos down the marina

I would recommend Aqua. I would have had my wedding in but we had too many guests.
I had it Portmarnock Golf links instead which was amazing. If you didn't want to use their big room I'm sure you could rent their restaurant that overlooks the beach and sea.

Thanks a million for all the suggestions. A good few to add to the list there. We will be in contact.

The area has widened since, we are Looking at ghan house carlingford and Lyons village.

Any other suggestions outside Dublin similar to above to keep our options open would be great?

Ideally would like to view 4 in Dublin and 4 outside Dublin.

if youre looking at village at lyons because of the waterfall then of a standard is brook lodge with the small brook out the back.
That brook turns in to a torrent after a couple of rainy days.

    You could look at Bray.

The Esplanade Hotel have a room in which they hold weddings on the first floor - it overlooks the sea. http://www.esplanadehotel.ie/weddings-bray-and-wicklow/civil-ceremony-venue/

Alternatively, there are three Victorian houses on the seafront on Air B&B, one of them is even attached to Campo De Fiori Italian restaurant (they own it). If you like your Italian food, then this would be ideal. You could also stay over on the night... plenty of rooms... obv you'd have to speak with the owners etc.

The others you'd have to get outside caterers but it would probably work out the same price.

    Something a bit different

Possibly not quite what you're looking for or maybe too small but Moloughneys (in their Olive's Room guise) are now taking private parties in the old Red Stables restaurant? It's a bit like a greenhouse in St Anne's Park and just at the coast.

Trudder Lodge, Glendalough House, Kippure estate or Marfield house?
Don't know about water near them but all nice and different.

I'm probably not allowed to post bad reviews but my experience of both is that they don't live up to the hype at all. I wouldn't eat in either place, never mind trust them with my wedding.

Would probably be too far but the cliff house hotel is supposed to be amazing. Picture perfect also.

Crover House Hotel, in Cavan. Overlooks Lough Sheelin with its own lake front access, beautiful grounds and a stunning building, and the food is very, very good!

    The Strand Hotel, Dunmore East.

    Best view in the country.

My friend was TWICE f*d over by Aqua - appalling business - once over engagement party & once over christening party - same story each time - they are very cautious prudent couple & had gone out to see & discuss - on my recommendation as I love the place -and on EACH time when they got there the reataurant had overbooked & the seating configuration confirmed could not be delivered & there were not enough waiting staff to serve - half the family was at another end of the reataurant & the meals were so staggered it was a disaster. They made a lot of excuses the first time & I was shocked they gave them the business again as they'd been so upset - getting it wrong twice just showed an imbedded disregard for their customers. I love the place & view but I'd never trust them with something important again. Bit like my attitude to old curosos in Malahide - now closed.

I wouldn't particularly recommend Howth YC - the area is quite 80's & has xylaphone screen partitions & its food is very mediocre. My cousin was married there a few years back & the band had to plug into the wall sockets & it kept tripping the dining room lights & sound amps - It was really a bit of an amateur disaster. The dining room also overlooks the kids changing room & boat lift yard & metal ramp - not quite what you probably intend.

Not sure if you are still looking for a venue but I would throw in Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar as an option. They are right on the lake and have a lovely restaurant which looks out on it. They also have a private function room for smaller events which is stunning and also overlooking the lake if you wanted a totally private event.
