there are some pretty serious threads here, and a few fun ones too. But I dont know if there is a Tips & Tricks one!

    So here goes ....

Tips & Tricks for surviving & living in the Post Apoc Zombie world (and Ireland) .... a bit like Columbus tips in Zombieland!

Has anyone got any tips? Not too serious now, we all know we should be prepping, and learning field surgery using moss & dental floss. Got any other tips?

I was in the shower today and thinking about Zombies (as I usually do....) and thinking about the 'Thing I cant Live Without' thread (where someone said thy would miss taking hot baths, I think) and I mentally agreed at the time. So, there I was in my hot shower, without a care in the world, and wondering would I get a hot shower in Zombie-Ireland. OK, heating water is easy, and washing is easy, but what about the few mins after the shower when you are 'exposed' and got no weapons ..... simples, keep a machete in the shower and lock the bathroom door (better still, bar it shut with large piece of wood or wedge chair under handle), and have 2nd escape route prepared before hand (in case they come in large numbers and block the bathroom door) .... better still, take shower in hotel or apartment block where you can block off an entire floor before hand .... so, the Tips & Tricks thread was born

My tips (please add as you see fit)
-keep machete in the shower & lock (very securely) the door
-dont run forward while looking backwards (as they do in movies.... it always ends badly)
-if you hear a bump or crash of glass .... DONT go investigate!
-have a spare weapon on you at all times
-eat / rest / scavenge whenever you can, it doesnt always go to plan
-many countries eat dogs, dont be sentimental if you are starving!

In the early days while social norms are still hanging on, I think most people would run away from a wet naked man charging at them. The celts used to get naked for fights, there's a certain level of intimidation being naked.

One tip is to remember what you are, one of the most dangerous creatures to ever walk the face of the planet. Every other living creature capable of fear is afraid of you, and as long as you convey that fact with confidence around other animals you'll have a psychological advantage. Stone age humans caused extinction levels events with a stone tied to the end of a stick when we first went to the Americas.

kneepadding for at least one knee

nothing sucks more ass than banging your unprotected knee in the zombie apocalypse

    Also,
    • Handy for climbing
    • Fighting, knee to the groin or the face is potentially fatal if not excruciatingly painful
    • firing a rifle or pistol from a kneeling position
    • being part of a spear/shieldwall
    • fixing stuff, last thing ye need is a pebble stuck in your knee
    • Praying - for when it's grim and you're in a foxhole
    • Proposing to the last living woman/man on earth
    • receiving a knighthood from royalty

Ah no, ye know what i mean, they're handy :)

Scumlord makes a valid point, since the first stromatalyte bubbled its first chemical reactions about a billion years of evolution has led to us, the Ultimate apex predator, a tooled up well disciplined group of humans is the most deadly force ever unleashed.

Think of any predator threat from any point in the long evolution of earth, then give yourself 30 seconds to figure out how to anihilate it with some of your friends

    thought of a couple more
    • stay away from Cork ..... Cork-Zombies ......eeeuuughhhrrrr ;-)
    • head up to the border to get yer diesel, lots of it there
    • always scope out Lidl & Aldi when nearby .... they may still have some special post-apoc Z items left (like heated wellies, or a con saw)
    • Tesco noodles last forever ..... well, they taste the same on day 1 as day 100 !
    • churches are great places to get candles (dont forget to leave 10c in the tin!)

did anyone hear that article on Today FM this morn? It was a Top-10 list of skills needed to survive the Zombie Apoc.

From memory, I think it was (in no particular order)
    Repair machinery
    Auto mechanic
    Make stuff from wood
    Make chemicals
    First aid
    Repair tools
    Grow food / raise animals
    Preserve food

I think we in this forum have touched on all of those at some point.

Making chemicals is going to be a hard one without the right knowledge, but also one of the most beneficial.

    Sleeping safe!

I think I'd be smashing the stair cases out of a few houses and sleeping in relative safety upstairs. Which leads on to ladders. It might be worth moving any ladders you find when out into strategic locations to aid a get away. If you can go straight up a ladder into the first floor of a locked and boarded up house you can either pull the ladder up or in an emergency push it away. If you keep a ladder with you on the fist floor you can also use it to escape.

a new tip for me so ..... always keep an eye out for ladders!

The 1st floor (or 2nd floor if you are reading this from the USofA...) has been mentioned before, particularly in your own home at the beginning of the outbreak, is a great place to hold up for a short while, especially if you destroy the stairs. Zombies aint smart (and cant climb.....we figure). You have access to beds, water, elec (while it lasts) and are in your own home, so you know where everything is, and its much quicker to get your tools, food, supplies, etc from your garage, kitchen, etc instead of hauling all that stuff to the next block, or wherever you think is a better hold-out. The upstairs of your own home (with stairs destroyed) is a very good starting point at the breakout stage.

I'd put a premium value on good rope as well as ladders. A zombie might be up to climbing a ladder behind you but I doubt they could climb a rope.

Rope left already tied to an anchor would be much handier as you get to greater heights, not so much for getting in but as a quick escape.
