PTRB - New Landlord

    Hi guys,

I'm a potential new landlord. I want to rent out two bedrooms in my house, whilst I go and travel/work abroad a few months.

I have considered getting a management company involved but then I think that would just be throwing away money. I have family and friends nearby that could check on the property when needs to.

But my question is, do I need to register with the PTRB? even if I just want to rent a room out for a few months? Am l legally obliged to register?

    TIA

If you're still resident in the property, then you can avail of the Rent a Room scheme. This allows you to get 12k tax free and wouldn't come under the PRTB's remit. Whether you actually are able to qualify for that is another matter, as it would depend on how long you are gone and you might want to talk to a tax lawyer about it.
