Not sure what would be best option in following scenario

If in a situation where a worker, feels that a coworker is trying to find fault with them/work they do/pass blame to them, is on the receiving end of smart comments, and has been informed that the co worker has bad mouthed them to other employees, is this something that should be made known to someone higher in the organisation, informally, even if not taking any action.

Worker has no issue with co worker, and doesn't know why co worker is acting this way towards them. not a continual issue, but never the less not a once off either,co worker can be complete opposite at times, act as if there isn't an issue,

In a way, there isn't much to go on, and may seem silly to say it, and in another, it may be better to make it known before the co worker makes themselves the victim of this.and paints the other person in a bad light to boss?

    Opinions please.

Keep a log of all comments/actions, then take it to HR/Management

Has this person spoken to the co-worker yet?

Taking it to HR is the nuclear option, best left till you've exhausted the obvious, "talk to them" route.

Also "and has been informed that the co worker has bad mouthed them to other employees," beware that the "informant" may also have an axe to grind and be stirring the sh1t.
