    Hi,

Got one for the bitcoin / blockchain guys...

I find it strange that the supposedly official bitcoin wallet connects to a fricking bitcoin casino!!!

Is this normal or have I been duped into downloading a fake version?

    Regards,
    Gary

What wallet did you get, and where did you get it from?

    From here, seemed genuine..

That is the projects homepage and is legitimate.

I suspect Bitcasino are running a bitcoin daemon with an exposed(connectable) port to help propagate the blockchain. If you check the debug window you'll find a list of connected peers that are being used for this purpose (default is 1-8 connections).

I agree with the previous reply. The bitcoin core wallet isn't malware, and it will connect to other nodes to receive and share transactions.

Unless you know what you're doing you probably don't to be using Core as your wallet though, it's effectively a full bitcoin node, meaning it downloads and shares every bitcoin transaction ever - tens of gigabytes of data.

It's possible to use bitcoin with a more lightweight wallet if you're a more casual user. I'd recommend Copay (will work on PC or phone) or electrum. You can find links to both on the bitcoin.org site here: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

    Sorry for late reply :)

I only needed to download it for the purpose of applying an old backup file to get access to my old bitcoins... I've since sent the balance to my new mobile wallet and removed the 60gb+ full node wallet.

Good to know the full node wallet was genuine.

    Cheers lads
