This is probably more suited to reddit's showerthoughts but do Barry's and Lyon's tea make more money during a recession than they do during times of growth? **** all else to do.

Drink tea and ride, pop out a few kids, get loads a benefits. Or you could just work... And ride.

No because during a recession people share tea bags with their neighbors.

Nein. Can use the same tea bag over and over.

Beer companies actually increase profits in a recession.

Well the likes of Burger King Mcdonalds and Scruffy Fried Chicken have done well as people still want to get out but on the cheap.

Less Michelin star and more would you like fries with that.

Accordingly bargain shops, such as dealz and general 2 euro stores, were doing great business over the recession. Obvious to see why.

Lidl and Aldi must be doing better than their counterparts, or better than they were in the boom anyways.

I shopped in the euroshop during the boom and still do. I dont see the point in paying Tesco €3.79 for a tube of toothpaste that costs €1.49 for the very same thing. Same with a Mars bar @ €1.15 in centra but 3 for €1.50 in the euroshop

Repo men do a lot of business during recessions as well as the legal eagles who oversee the court orders ordering the repos.

I have noticed Aldi and Lidl have gone a lot more expensive over the last couple of years

I think it's more that the others have got cheaper to avoid losing custom, anyway "the war is won!", they don't need to have such low prices anymore.

I don't get the "Aldi is getting more expensive" thing - as in, I don't experience it. I bought a tin of mixed beans (kidney, chickpeas etc), a bunch of bananas, a set of four yogurts, two savoury salads and one fruit salad this evening, for a total of €8.50.

Maybe it depends on what stuff a person buys?

Dealz is an awesome shop recession or no. A hammer for €1.49? Happy days.

Depends on what the balance is between people drinking more tea because they've nothing else to do (...do people actually do this?) and people drinking less tea because they can no longer afford it, or switching to non-brand tea because they can't afford Barrys.

What do you expect, they've nailed most of their prices at €1.49 :P

Booked a table in McDonalds for Valentine's last year, booking a readymeal and a cry **** for one this year.

Multi billionaires do very well out of recessions.

    https://www.oxfamireland.org/blog/62-billionaires-same-wealth-half-world
We now have a world where 62 people – so few they would fit on a single coach – own as much as the poorest half of the world’s population. This number has fallen from 80 last year and 388 as recently as 2010.
    ...
The wealth of the richest 62 has increased by more than half a trillion dollars to $1.76 trillion (approximately €1.62/£1.22tr.). Meanwhile, the wealth of the poorer half of the world has fallen dramatically by 41% since 2010, despite the global population increasing by around 400 million people during that period..

the cost of immunising children against life-threatening illnesses in poor countries has climbed dramatically in recent years and according to MSF, a vaccination package which cost $0.67 in 2001 cost over $30 in 2014.
