    They will still need to have insurance that covers you.

    Yes, you need to be insured on their car. Get them to call their insurance company and add you as a named driver. Will probably cost a few hundred as you are a learner, depends on a few things though! Your age, engine size of car, number of people already insured on the car, etc..
