Music/Model/Piano wire questions

OK, I know nothing about musical instruments.

Online research suggests a handy way to make some precision electrical probes is to use piano wire or similar. Sometimes used by hobbyists for models. Basically I want to get some fine gauge flexible but strong/springy metal. Strong enough to force fast insulation on an electrical connector but not too thick.

Anecdotal evidence suggests piano wire may be hard to come by, used only by professionals, but that there may be equivalent guitar strings?
A single core wire rather than a wound string made of smaller strands - I don't know if this even applies to metal guitar strings, I guess it doesn't apply to piano wire.

I estimate I need something in the following ballpark
    SWG Inch mm
    22 0.028 0.711
    23 0.024 0.610
    24 0.022 0.559
    25 0.020 0.5080

Sound like something I can buy off the shelf in an average musical instrument shop in Ireland? If so, what should I ask for to shortcut the explaining and possible confusion. Ideas on cost of a single unit of wire?
