Been quoted €400 for a full 03 A4 service would i lose my full service history if i went to an independent garage and would they carry out as good a service?
bit tight for cash at the mo

At the age of your car it won't matter keeping it at a main dealer.

A waste of money taking a car of that age to a main dealer imo. Won't make much difference to service history at this stage either, detailed invoice from an independent garage will hold just as much value.

what's in the "full" service for €400?

I'd generally agree that main dealer servicing on a 12 year old car is overkill, if you can find a good indy then go for it, anywhere near Waterford I can give you the name of a good local guy

I'd try to get a list of what is included in the main dealer service and then you can get other quotes.

Independent mechanics vary in quality too.

I got expert service done on my 08 A4 tdi last wednesday from audi main dealer for €189. Paying €400 for a service is a lot to be honest

Thats about what i paid this time last year but i was told it was only a half service i got that time, even though they never mentioned it was a 'half' service at the time!

But that expert service is basically an oil and filter change and an inspection.
What about diesel filter, pollen filter, air filter, fan belt etc, you cant compare unless you know what the op is getting done to the car

Really?? I didnt know that myself to be honest. When i rang them they said all filters would be changed.
Only went to main dealer as it has FSH from there since new

From Audi's website but I don't see an explanation as to the difference between an "expert" and a "major" service

I had a "service" done two years ago on a Touraeg fixed price for €189+€25(surcharge for being over 2ltr) after seeing it advertised as a special deal in the paper. I am sure it only covered oil and filter with a "health check"

Does anyone know what I should be asking an independent garage to check for to do the full service and can anyone reccomed a garage in galway city pls?

That depends on what is scheduled to be done at your current service interval and also what was done on the previous service intervals.
