I have bough a new thinkpad x250, base spec so i am upgrading the ram from 4gb to 8 and the HDD to a SSD (and also the LCD from 1366 to 1920) but id like to see the upgrade in tangible terms if possible

is there any decent free benchmark that will show this? that i could run before and after

I'm not sure which to use, there are a good few around though. You'll see a huge increase in speed with the SSD alone. No need to run a benchmark to notice the difference. As for the benefit of the RAM upgrade, it really depends on what you're doing.
