VRT northern Ireland

Very new to the idea of addessing VRT on a privately purchased vehicle.

    The situation:

    1) buying car privately in southern ireland that still has UK plates on it. Seller bought it northern ireland 12+months ago. used about 50/50 north vs south
    2) current owner has copy of the sales invoice (confirmed genuine with garage in NI) but she never registered himself as the registered keeper in NI or paid the VRT on the car when purchased 12 months + ago so it has been in limbo somewhat since she bought it. A bit cheeky on her part of course.

Question is, if I wanted to VRT myself, if we do a bill of sale from her to me stating sale within the last 30 days will VRT guys ask for proof that it was in northern ireland up until that date if the sellers address on the bill of sale is in southern ireland? Woudl they look beyond the most recent bill of sale if the V5 cert name is the the owner?

How would anyone prove the movement of a car from NI since no ferry receipt or the likes?

    any help appreciated

It's illegal for a private resident to sell a UK registered vehicle in the south...

ok Thanks for your reply. However, is it illegal if the car was solely being used in the north and only through the process of selling does it come south??

what about the general VRT process for northern irish imports....

Lets say it was a much simpler scenario. Bought up north last week and have invoice and V5 no ambiguities. How would one prove it was only brought into the south last week? Surely they wouldnt expect a southern buyer to register as a keeper in NI first with a southern address purely to bring down and VRT??? what proof can be produced as to a car coming from NI when there are no equivalent to ferrie tickets and what not??

    thanks
