Hi guys a friend of mine is having an issue with his ewes and asked me to put this up.
    5 ewes blind
Another few blind in 1 eye
    Pinkish swollen watery eyes
Only recently housed over the weekend
On grass and hay bales prior to housing
He's never had an issue like this before and is wondering what is causing it

Are they getting silage indoors or still getting hay.

    Still on hay
Exact same thing has been done year after year and has never happened before

I have a silage bale out in the field and think s few have got it too. Tell him to be very very careful not to catch it himself, I got it a couple of years and although it's not painful it's unpleasant. Can be very bad for the health of your eyes too

blue alamycin spray ... hold the eye open & spray eye and under eye lids

looks terrible but seems to work

2 years ago we had 70 ewes in 2 different divides , in the middle of summer

gave up trying to find what causes it, just treat and move on

Had pink eye in a single ewe two years ago as well. It's important to seperate the affected sheep from the flock.

On vets advice, I used Opticlox ointment tubes under the eyelids and it cleared up fine. The main problem with this (besides the blindness) is that the ewe will find it difficult to locate and eat fodder.

We had ewe Dorset ewe lambs in early for scanning in late October and had them eating silage in. What rack so they were rubbing their faces in it,right few of them caught it,we but some alamaycin in with a bottle of feet first that you buy for the feet and sprayed it into their eyes worked anyway.

These ewe lambs were clipped recently and were outside in serious bad weather without their wool and that could have caused it too.
