Planning a trip with the other half to do a bit of a tour of Ireland. Shes never been to Ireland and ive done a shockingly small amount of travel in the country!

Probably aim for April for 7-10 days.

Since we will be taking the ferry into Dublin and rent a car. These are in the order i can think of so far.

    1. Newgrange
    2. Giants Causeway
    3. Downings in Donegal. Small seaside place where my dad grew up. Nice spot.
    4. Down to Sligo where my parents are. View a few places around there like Glencar waterfall.
    5. Galway.
    6. The Burrn
    7. Cliffs of Moher
    8. Back to Dublin.

Probably drive some of this route around the coast.

    Any other suggestions.

Cliffs are nice but a jaded tourist trap, when you're in Clare check out the other end of it, Ennis>Lahinch>Quilty>throw eggs at Trump's golfcourse in Doonbeg>Kilkee>Carrigaholt. When in Carrigaholt you just HAVE to do the Dolphin tour!

It is incredible good value. Dress warm, gets chilly. No, no excuses, if you're going there, it's mandatory. Lunch in the Long Dock:

Go back via Kilkee>Kilrush (stop at the choo choo if you want, no guarantee it's open http://www.westclarerailway.ie/ ) and back to Ennis.
    Or:
Catch the car ferry in Killimer and go across to Tarbert in Kerry.
I guarantee some of the nicest scenery you will see anywhere on this planet.
If you do go to the Cliffs, consider Lahinch>Cliffs>and the coast road from there to Ballyvaughan, going via Fanore. The scenery there is outrageously spectacular. Be prepared to never exceed 40 km/h due to the usual tourists, grannies in Micras, farmers, sheep, cows, tractors, cyclists and people abandoning their cars in the road to get out to stare open mouthed at the landscape. :D Relax and enjoy.
Once you're in Ballyvaughan, you have to make a stop at the Tea Rooms:

When in the north west you could check out Yeats grave at drumclife and the horseshoe near grange which are both close to glencar waterfall. Maybe do a bit of surfing in Bundoran or strandhill?

On the drive from Clare to Dublin, head off the motorway (if you're using motorways) and cross the Wicklow mountains via the Sally Gap. Taking the N7 back from Limerick, you can get off at Newbridge and head for Kilcullen and Blessington. Then go towards the Sally Gap. At the gap, there's a crossroads; each road is scenic in its own way. An option is to turn right - stop off at Glenmacnass waterfall at the head of the valley; lovely views - and follow the road into Laragh. Glendalough is a two minute drive to your right if you want. Otherwise, turn left, head to Roundwood, go through it and there'll be a left again for the Sally Gap. This time, stop off to see Lough Tay, and at the gap itself, again turn right. That'll eventually bring you towards the M50 - and you've seen all four roads. Allow maybe three hours from Newbridge (excluding Glendalough) - but well worth it.

If ye're Father Ted fans, the parochial house is in Clare near the Burren, and the Chinese pub is in Kilfenora
