I've been asked to check for a report on a van in NI and was wondering if anyone knew which one is best to go for?
There's motorcheck, cartell etc and are 25-35€ or RAC is 15£?

If it's in NI then go with a HPI check.

Most of the Irish based sites come from the same data source, very little difference. If its a UK car, I'd be more inclined to get a UK car report and an IE one, covers you from all angels for a fraction of the price of the car.

Hpi checker as said. If it was a car id be running reg through motchecker too as it shows recent milage and what the car failed (had advisories on)

NCT is easy, just go to https://www.ncts.ie/ and put in the reg. no, it will tell you when the next test is due.

The car tax website will only tell you if there was any 'transactions' in the past three months, these do not include tax renewal, just if there was any change of ownership.

If you have recently changed ownership of your vehicle, or have surrendered your vehicle to an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) for destruction, you can check the current status of the vehicle by entering your vehicle registration number in the box provided and submitting your status enquiry. Please note where a vehicle is sold to a dealer, no VRC will be issued in respect of this transaction.

The 3 main Irish sites that are used by the motor trade, Motorcheck, SIMI & Cartell, don't use the same UK data source. They each have 1 unique and separate data provider in the UK and they are not all the same. I know this for a fact.

I would agree that it is best to do both a HPI check and an Irish check. If original poster or anyone else would like to know which Irish check is the most comprehensive, pm me and I'll tell you which one and why. I'll even call in a favour and get everyone who pm's me how to get a discount code.

This way people like yourselves will tell other people like you why this specific Irish check is best, instead of me just saying "X" check is best and nobody knowing why.

Hpi is the best checker for uk cars. As an aside, unfortunately none of the Irish sites can tell you if an irish car is stolen or not.

I used totalcarcheck this evening. For 1.89 sterling I got a full report bar finance. It even have the previous MOTs and any reason it failed those MOTs. Impressive given the price.

I use Total Car Check too as it can eliminate problem cars without even paying as you can see mileage and previous MOT issues for free. Then, if all looks OK and am still interested the checks are very good value then too. Think it was £10 or £15 I paid as a bundle for three full checks.

Also use these to then double check with the government data.

Ah, The Gardai and more importantly the Irish law makers in their infinite wisdom, deem it not absolutely necessary for any private person or dealer buying a car to be able to find out with relative certainty whether a car has been stolen or not. This is in complete contrast to the UK. And not just stolen vehicle info, Irish insurance write-off info (cat c & d) not shared by insurance companies or forced to share info by law, because it will cost them millions. It's not rocket science, we should just copy what been done ages ago in the UK because it's proven to work for everyone.

That said, and as I mentioned earlier, there is one Irish site with a lot more info than the others.

Yes, I'm aware that one company are in discussions for the last 2 years trying to resolve the issue, but alas civil service wheels turn very slowly.
