Hi, I have a laptop that doesn't have a HDMI port. I want to watch Making a Murderer on my TV through my laptop.

Can someone link me to the proper cable? There seems to be a lot of these online but they all seem to be just charging devices. I'm looking for one that will actually transmit data.

    Thanks.

Best option would be to purchase a Google Chromecast and watch Netflix through that on the TV.

Any HDMI cable or go VGA cable with an output for sound from your Laptop

I use the VGA cable with sound output with mine on the TV in the sitting room :D

I don't have Netflix. Watching a free stream I found. Thanks anyway.

Thanks. That VGA cable seems to be the answer to my problems. Very expensive though. Can these be got any cheaper?

Could try Amazon UK for the one or eBay

No problem at all! Did you get one with an sound output?

Just to note that unlike a HDMI cable VGA does not transmit sound. So you would either need another cable to play sound from your tv or play sound from your laptop with the picture from the TV.

Is there any other ports on your laptop?
Is there a display link port? Kinda looks like a usb port except one of the corners on the port is rounded. This transmits both picture and sound and seems to be the preferred option with some manufacturers.

Edit: A chromecast was mentioned previously. It is worth noting that the chromecast can be used for casting from the chrome browser on your pc to the chromecast dongle/tv. (As much as I hate chrome browser - bloated and creepy google) Its not just for netflix.

The one I ordered has a VGA-sound output molded into one. It's short, but the sound (headphone) and VGA outputs are right beside each other so I should be fine.

The Chromecast would work fine, but the Mother just wants to watch Making a Murderer so it wouldn't get much use for the price.

Yep, same as the one you linked from Argos. The cable is short (probably why it's so cheap) but the outputs are close. Should be fine. This is it - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003OT1634/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item

    Thanks again.

It's longer than the one in Argos

Does the tv have a usb port? If it does it's possible it will play video files from a usb drive.

Cable arrived on Thursday but I cannot get it to work. Have tried everything but it just won't work. It's probably something simple. I've tried it on two different TVs.

Anyone any clues on what I'm doing wrong?

Are you getting picture and no sound or neither?

I presume you are selecting the Scart input source on the TV when you have the cable connected?

    Neither.

I'm selecting PC. The Sky box is in the scart source.

If you are outputting through VGA on laptop you need to tell the laptop how to output it. This is usually via one the Function keys. Usually has a monitor symbol on it. You'll need to select either VGA out only or laptop screen and VGA out simultaneously.

Yeah, Windows key and P and the click duplicate but there's nothing happening. The laptop is recognising the monitor but I can't get it up on the TV.

Might have adjust refresh rate. Have you Tv manual to see what PC connection requirements are?
