So, it appears we're set to have four debates across three channels:

RTE - One four-way (FF, FG, Lab, SF)
    One seven-way ( Above + Renua, AAA/PBP, SD)

    TV3 - Main four parties

TG4 - Same, but Aodhán Ó Riordán deputising for Burton.

Will Enda attend the TV3 and RTE seven-way debate? So far, the only confirmed date is Feb 15 for the all-party.

I have heard that RTE are planning a Claire Byrne 7 way debate from the University Concert Hall in Limerick either on the 8 or 15 February.

It would be spineless if he didn't show up to all of them.

Just a word on this (as we are expecting a dissolution this week). Discussing when these debates are on and now they are presented, from a broadcasting point of view, is fine. Discussing any policy not related to broadcasting is not allowed. Making remarks on individuals is not allowed. There is an active Politics forum on Boards where you can discuss that sort of thing

I agree, the Kenny point was in the context of Vincent Browne being the probable TV3 moderator, similarly the question of whether all parties should be included is a formatting matter for RTE.

Will the TG4 one be in Irish?

Yes, that's why O'Riordán has been proposed, apparently he's the only Labour candidate who can speak it!

VinB stating last night that health problems mean he won't be fronting TV3's election coverage - can't imagine Mick Clifford would be much use chairing a debate?

Second RTE debate confirmed for 23rd, still no dates for TV3 or TG4.

It all seems very late in the day to be negotiating leaders debates. The broadcasters should have got together to issue their plans and then looked for a reaction from the political parties.

What are Newstalk and Radio 1 planning?

So hold on ... This is the same TV3 that are planning a News Channel... is there a problem with their online news service? Xpose reporting on politics!

    Not surprised Newstalk is involved.

Very scrappy debate. Pat Kenny's interruption for Colette Fitzpatrick was a bit teachery as if she was a substitute teacher.

A dark studio and low production values. Tv3 news needs a rebrand.

420,000 or so viewers, with a high of 800,000.

Do TG4 have a studio big enough for this or will it be in a town hall?

It does not say much about the debate. But 7lá studio hosted their 2011 debate, analysis after the debate.

I think I remember reading the have a studio that can hold an audience.

TV3 managed it in what looked like a broom cupboard.

It could be in RTE Studios as they provide an hour a day free programmes and news and current affairs on TG4 is provided by RTE as well

The news is part of the hour. nuacht RTÉ is based at TG4 HQ.

SBP reporting that it could be cancelled now, because Adams wanted to nominate Pearse Doherty, as Labour did with O'Riordáin, but that was unacceptable to Kenny and Martin.

Irish Times now reporting TG4 debate has been cancelled, they will do a series of one on one pieces instead.

Strange considering that Gerry Adams took part in the 2011 debate on TG4.

Green Party lost battle to be part of tonight's debate.

I didn't know there was a "Ms" Adams involved. :D

What's this nonsense of a deputy leaders debate on TV3 tonight partially overlapping the one on RTE 1?
Mick Clifford could be a good host. If the RTE one is scrappy it might be an alternative. Still wierd

UL doesn't look great pity considering how they used it for EuroSong back in 2008.

Source Elmo? One from the last 24 hours? The entire media is saying that the debate is cancelled.

Any word on UTV or TV3 election count day coverage?

Any word on UTV or TV3 election count day coverage?

AFAIK UTV have bulletins all of Saturday. Saturday AM on TV3 will take up most of the morning and I assume a number of hours with Vincent Browne during the day.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,062 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Browne is on leave from TV3 at the moment, is he not? The Times certainly reported he would not be presenting election coverage this year.

TBH I think that was only for the debate.

TV3 and UTV Ireland (according to Digiguide) have regular schedules on the Saturday. RTÉ and TG4 with all day coverage.

TV3 has Vote 2016 with Ivan Yates on Sunday for 2 hours between 7pm and 9pm

Don't forget Irish TV from 2pm.

    From UTV Ireland http://utv.ie/News/2016/02/03/UTV-Ireland-announces-Your-Election-coverage-53389
As votes are cast and the counting process begins, UTV Ireland will broadcast regular updates throughout the day on Saturday 27 February, in addition to half-hour news bulletins broadcasting throughout the evening.

I try to forget them but fair play to them for doing more than TV3 or UTV Ireland
