    Hi,

We used have sky so have the box and satellite connections installed etc.

What can we access with no subscription? Could we get more than what saorview has to offer?

    Thanks

Well, if you want Saorview, you will need an aerial. Check out saorview.ie to get your nearest transmitter. You can use the Sky box but you would be better served getting a Freesat box (or Freesat + HD - if you want recording) which would replace the Sky box and give you a 7 day EPG. A FTA combi box would be a bit cheaper but would not have the 7 day epg - but some boxes can do this but is not easy.

FTA satellite with a dish pointed towards 28.2° East will offer you more channels than Saorview but you won't get any of the Irish terrestrial channels. Not a big deal for some but they are the most watched channels in the country.

Get a Freesat and Saorview combi box, or a Freesat box, if you have a saorview box or TV which decodes saorview. Use the sky dish for freesat (uses same satellites) and an aerial for saorview

I have free to air and get all the English channels plus RT,France24 and Al Jeezera, but can I pick up any German Channels as it would help me with the language?

    Different satellite position, 19.2°E.

When doing it this way would it mean having to switch boxes everytime you want to go from Irish to UK channels and vice versa? By switch boxes I mean switching between the input on your tv, AV1 to AV2

You could get a motor on your sat dish, to get Astra 19.2
Or you could get a 2nd lnb and use a multiple LNB bracket to get both sats, with a diseqc switch
