iMac 27 inch 5K memory upgrade question

I'm considering getting a new 27 inch iMac with the 5K screen.

I don't want to pay the daft prices Apple charge for a memory upgrade and was planning to upgrade myself. However I was told in the Apple shop that, unlike the previous model it's not possible to upgrade the new 5K model.

I'm not sure that they are right, I can see aftermarket memory on sale for them.

    What's the story?

The mid and late 2015 models have 4 user accessible slots taking up to a total of 32gb though there are reports it can support up to 64gb.

If you can get the exact model number of the machine you intend to buy you can confirm it on Crucial or Memoryc.ie websites.

Also if you check the specs on Apple.com it will tell you how memory is configured and whether it's customer or AASP installable.

Good luck with your new Mac !

I got one of these machines recently and they're insanely good. And there's a flap on the back that you remove to upgrade the RAM.

Thanks folks, I'll probably go get one tomorrow.
When I was in the shop a couple of weeks ago looking at the kit the assistant said that the access point wasn't in the new machines, seemed daft but I didn't like to argue.

maybe best not to use that shop for advice.. you're choice to support them and their expertise...
