I was watching a film on c4 +1 called now you see me.
I was watching on the tv not pc

it finished and I went back on the pc . I opened a new tab. internet explorer
then typed n (just a letter noting more) and now you see me was a suggested search on google.

    its a bit weird

I would understand if I watched it on the pc but it was completely separate.

    whats going on.
    how did they know :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Big Brother IS watching you

I don't know much about these things but maybe lots of people who watched it had the idea to google it as well in the area served by c4+1 and you have location turn on and google is becoming so up to the minute in search trends or something.

Maybe Google trends in the background and provides suggestions based on what people are currently searching for. You likely weren't the only person searching that term.

Is your tv a smart tv running Android?

Thursday was international privacy day. I used the link on Google home page the day to stop search sharing info across devices.

Test - type "no" in to google
Result - I'll let you guess
Conclusion - you ain't the first.
Alternate conclusion - google is reading your brain. Link to your brain can be found here

There is a ted talk on this - I though people knew. If you google something, and I google something - we will get 2 completely different set of results based on what we do online.

If your tv or skybox or whatever is connected to your internet - this happens. Completely standard.

Why would they be on the roof?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 244 ✭✭queueeye

I think it's the first step in sky net becoming self aware.

Id say, based on nothing but my own strongly expressed, poorly formed opinion that its a bit like a twitter trending thing, or maybe it has predicted that on A Saturday night someone in your profile might be looking up films and has a few you might like? If you've a gmail or youtube account you have a profile, and then your behaviour online modifies the suggestions further? All of this might have suprising predictive power, which someone in your profile might start a thread about.

    Did you see him yet?

Better check under the bed or in the closet, cause I bet there is a monster hiding waiting to grab you or a zombie dead ghost granny in the attic who will crawl out and steal your eyes and tongue while you sleep.

I didnt even watch it, never heard of it but it came up as a suggestion for me too

Not related to tv but I've noticed something similar about things I've talked about in whatsapp conversations pop up in ads soon after on my phone or what not! I find I'm sharing less and less these days online and totally on top of privacy stuff. It's getting slightly concerning about how much info is out there about the average Joe who's not on top of stuff!

I recently set up a new android tablet for the parents and the amount of bloatware and privacy stuff I had to disable was crazy
