Not content with making their DOG's bigger now, (and getting rid of the HD part too for some reason) we now have to suffer a week of text under the logo advertising that some sporting event is coming soon.

I thought it was just me. The logo is too big. Make it smaller RTE.

Oh Jesus. You can't miss RTE ONE with the graphic being at large size. Why take the HD part of it out is another mystery alright.

That whole yolk was becoming close to sitting on Marty Whelans head on Winning Streak earlier tonight. Nuff said RTE.

The HD is there today, on Sky at any rate.

HD part is gone and the DOG's are bigger at this current moment in time. They have also moved in from the edge more, making them more distracting.

On Saorview it shows RTÉ One HD and just RTÉ Two with a pointless reminder about the 6 Nations. I wish RTÉ would stop doing that. It looks cheap and tacky.

    "6 DAYS TO GO"

Ye they also took away the HD letters on the RTE 1 & 2 dogs on Saorsat.

The dogs are back to normal, changed during the same programme's.
    Must have changed at 7pm

They should remove the 'HD' for good now since 720p/1080i is basically the standard for Irish channels now. Basically the 'HD' we currently know should be phased into just being 'SD'. Having 'HD' isn't impressive enough anymore, it's just expected, to warrant making the logo larger.

Also, why do these channels insist on keeping their logos on during movies? It's bad enough that watching movies on them is plagued with ads. Anyone watching on saorview is well aware what channel they're watching since they have basically 4 channels and anyone watching on Sky etc. will also be well aware since they've to use the guide to find the channel

They should keep displaying the HD dog.
And as long as the other stations on Saorview continue to broadcast SD channels, RTE should keep advertising the HD.

RTE should have no dog as should all channels. Trying to watch Rebellion tonight and not be distracted was so annoying I nearly gave up.

A lot of angry people going by Twitter.

They had it on screen during that? Lmao, pathetic. Probably the most cinematic thing they've made to date yet they can't just get rid of it for the few hour episodes that's in it. Literally every single person watching it is aware that it's on RTE, especially since it's obvious when as breaks occur, so why do they need it there all the time

I don't see the need for DOG, all official Saorview boxes, UPC, Eircom and Sky tell you the channel you are on when you switch to that channel.

Why is the RTÉ One DOG not shown during news bulletins?

I noticed they had the promo Dog for the first part of Rebellion. Had to make sure I was tuned to the HD version of the channel on Sky. By the second part came on they had the normal RTE One HD dog back up.

Why is the RTÉ One DOG not shown during news bulletins?

Because there is a full colour animated RTE News DOG during bullitens.

Is DOG tv slang for dog tag or does it stand for something?

    DIGITAL On-screen Graphic

Switch over now to RTE News Now if you have not seen the graphic. I'm not sure why they are showing the golf as well as RTE2 but at least they have removed the scrolling text and sidebars so on that account fair play to them.

If only they moved all that when they showed state funerals for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭Delta2113

At 14.58 they just pull off the golf in the most amateur way possible.

I've no real problem with the now bit - would be more appropriate for say sky news now.

The graphics and when to use them and not use them is what annoys me. The lack of respect shown to LIVE funeral coverage is shocking.

The quality of the picture should do that.

    It's now the digital age.
All Saorview approved devices put RTE 1 at number 1
SKY and UPC also give prominent positions.

There is no need to disfigure the screen.

Sometimes if the same program is on Freesat I'll go watch that instead.
I'm sure RTE's advertisers would be interested to know.

DOG might only possibly be useful if tuning in an unapproved box but they don't support those to the extent that they've broken the series link for them.
