Have you tried www.bluebanger.ie, I've no connection to them, but they were very helpful when I did my roof, give Seamus a ring, he'll help you out

A lot of old buildings have Blue Bangor slates. Just checking to make sure the building isn't listed or protected as if it is you'll need planning permission for any changes and you'll more than likely have to replace them with new Blue Bangor and salvage as many as you can.

I'd try and salvage as many slates as you can and get new ones to replace the damaged ones rather than replacing everything with cheaper Spanish, Chinese or Brazilian slates. Blue Bangor slates last 200 years easily so you should have no problem salvaging them. Everyone who sells Blue Bangor slates gets them from the Penrhyn Quarry in Wales. You can buy other Welsh slates but they won't be Blue Bangor. Only one company owns the Penrhyn quarry and they sell them to lots of different suppliers who sell them onto customers. The thing most people don't know is you can go directly to the quarry and get a quote taking out the middle man and saving money. I've done this on several projects but they were fairly large like churches etc, no houses. The quarry is LBS Roofing* and they have an Irish sales person who might visit and advise you. That's where I'd start.

    * I know I'm not allowed to name companies but presume that relates to resellers and not the owner of the quarry as there is only one so can't be biased.
