reading the report from one of the Fitzgibbon cup games in todays paper it seems a defender handpassed the ball into his own net.

Was the ref correct to allow it and is the rule the same for football?

I was always under the impression that a defending team can still score (for the opposite team of course) using a handpass. Ref is correct to allow it, I don't know what the alternative would even be, a free out? a free in?

Any way a defender plays the ball over the goal line and between the posts results in a score. Only attacking players are not able to score a goal with their hands or by carrying the ball over the line.

    The referee was correct.
