Does flac sound better than good quality MP3 in practice?

    So forgetting about specific tests and bit-rate etc. Does flac sound noticeably better when using decent equipment in comparison to say a 256Kbps MP3?

    Anyone do a real-world comparison?

    Flac plays back approximately 1,100Kbps (setting 0 @16bit)vs the shocking mp3 max 320Kbps .
    By course comparison it's like comparing a vhs to a bluray.
    IMO Mp3 from a music standing should only be used for ringtones at this point.

    Spot on. FLAC is pretty close to CD quality (arguably better in some circumstances because of software but that's another debate).

    If you do the conversion yourself from genuine store bought discs then yes but there's a lot of files available online in flac format that have obviously been converted from .mp3 and sound awful.

    Vinyl all the way though ;)
